Officers with the Braselton Police Department arrested Jerry Keith Fix for DUI-drugs and failure to yield when entering the road way. Fix was unaware he pulled out in front of another vehicle when he exited a Hwy. 53 gas station parking lot. Officers say he had extremely slurred, slow speech. “It seemed that it was laboring for Fix to speak,” said the officer. “He was also unsteady on his feet and had a hard time maintaining his balance, using the vehicle for support several times. I also noticed that Fix’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his face was flushed.” He took a field sobriety test. Field attempted two exercises and told officers both times that he could not continue. He tested negative for alcohol but told officers he’d taken prescribed Adderall earlier in the day to help him recover from the sleep medicine he takes. UNDERAGE DRINKING INSIDE VEHICLE Officers with the BPD also recently arrested two people on underage drinking and open container charges. Marion Elizabeth Smith was arrested for possession of alcohol under 21-years-old. Edward Albert Saca was arrested for open container of alcohol while driving, disorderly con duct and purchasing alcohol for a minor. The two were stopped for a broken headlight. Saca said he did not have a license, his name was “Eddie Saka” and his birthday was April 20, 1994. Officers smelled alcohol coming from the vehicle and saw a Bud Light “Mang-O-Rita” in the cup holder. Saca A man recently pulled a gun on a woman at a Braselton bar and grill. Officers with the Braselton Police Depart ment were called to the Bottom of the Cup last week on reports of a fight possibly involving a gun. Officers spoke with a man and woman in the parking lot, but they denied anything had happened. They said there was no fight, but told officers there was another group of people in the lot earlier that may have been involved. But officers noticed the woman was injured. Her knees were bleeding, and the man didn’t have his shoes on. His clothes were disheveled “as if he had been involved in an altercation.” When asked about their appearance, the couple told officers that a man followed them out of the bar and pulled a gun on the woman. The two men started fighting in the parking lot. Officers spoke with the woman, who “was extremely intoxicated” and repeatedly said that a man “pointed •Nancy Jan Toole, 61. of Lakeview Drive. Smith handed officers her license and they saw she was 19-years-old. Officers told Saca that his name wasn’t returning as having a valid driver’s license. He then gave officers his license showing his birthday was April 15, 1995. He is 21-years-old. OTHER ARRESTS Other arrests made by the BPD last week were: • La’Tron Jarvious Usher, wanted person and headlight violation. He was pulled over on Hwy. 124 for a broken headlight and officers discovered he had a warrant. A pas senger in the vehicle was issued a citation for disorderly conduct after he gave officers a false name and date of birth. • Dillon Ashley Neal, failure to stop at a stop sign and DUI-alcohol. Officers pulled over the vehicle after it failed to stop at a stop sign. Neal passed the stop sign and stopped in the middle of the road. Officers asked if he had been drinking and he said he had two-three beers earlier. He was arrested after taking a sobriety test. • Keelee Rian Green, wanted person, alteration of license plate, suspended registration and revalidation decal violation. The car was pulled over for having canceled registration. Green said she was borrowing her friend’s vehicle, but officer’s learned her friend was not the registered owner. Green said her friend had just pur chased the vehicle and had not registered it yet. Officers learned Green had a warrant out in reference to vehicle theft. The man with her also refused to identify the man and repeated several times that “he was only worried about the male pulling a gun on (the woman).” Officers say he was also extremely intoxicated. The man said he did not want to press charges. The woman initially agreed to provide a written statement of the incident but tore it into several pieces and handed the officer his pen back. “I asked her why she did that, and she responded that I would not believe her account of what happened,” accord ing to the officer. The woman said she didn’t want to press charges. The man said he had taken the gun from the other man and unloaded the magazine. He said he left the magazine and gun on the ground after the fight, but said he didn’t know where it was. BCSO Incident Reports Bethlehem residents report recent damage to mailboxes Several residents on Ellington Court and Dylan Way in Bethlehem reported damaged mailboxes recently. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to seven incidents on July 24, and it appeared the mailbox es that were damaged had been struck with a baseball bat or similar object. OTHER INCIDENTS Other recent incidents included: •traffic complaint on Jackson Trail Road at Hog Mountain Road, Winder. A traffic stop was performed on a driver for the use of multi-beam lighting equip ment/failure to dim headlights when approaching head- on and the driver was charged with driving while unlicensed. •aggressive driving, improper lane change and driv ing while driver’s license is suspended or revoked at a traffic accident on University Parkway at Harrison Mill Road, Winder. •burglary at a Dee Kennedy Road, Auburn, location, where a man reported the theft of tools from a locked shed at this location. •criminal trespass at a Sleeping Meadow Lane, Beth lehem, residence, where a mailbox was damaged. •theft by shoplifting at Walmart on Atlanta Highway in Winder, where a male and female reportedly walked out of the store without paying for a microwave oven and a food saver. •damage to property on University Parkway at Christ mas Avenue, Bethlehem, where a female reported dam age to her windshield by what she believed to be a rock that came off the roadway. •driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked and following too closely on University Park way at Patrick Mill Road SW, Winder, where a traffic accident was reported. •driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked on Highway 211 NW at Will Maynard Road, Winder, where a one-vehicle traffic accident was reported. •driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked and knowingly driving a motor vehicle on a suspended, cancelled or revoked registration on Punkin Junction Road at Monroe Highway, Winder, where a traffic stop was conducted. •harassing phone calls at a Manning Gin Road, Beth lehem, residence, where a female reported receiving several phone calls from a former employee. •theft by taking and criminal trespass at an Atlanta Highway SE, Winder, residence, where a homeowner reported the theft of copper wiring from underneath his residence and an item missing from his barn. •abandoned vehicle on Satilla Drive at Mulberry Road, Winder. •improper lane change/failure to maintain lane and failure to report an accident with injury/death on Atlan ta Highway NW, Winder, where a one-vehicle wreck was reported. •driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked, failure to move over for emergency vehicles, failure to obey police/fireman/crossing guard/other authorized person directing traffic and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane on University Parkway at Patrick Mill Road SW, Winder, where officers were attempting to remove a dead deer from the roadway. •theft by taking and criminal trespass at a Silvergate Way, Winder, residence, where a female reported two packs of cigarettes missing from her front porch. •harassing phone calls at a Farmington Way, Winder, residence, where a female reported receiving numerous phone calls from her ex-boyfriend who is her son’s father. •burglary, theft by taking and criminal trespass at a Hill’s Shop Road, Auburn, residence, where a man reported $975 in various tools, construction supplies and household items missing from his residence that is undergoing a remodeling. •entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with the intent to commit theft or a felony and theft by taking at a Laythan Court, Winder, residence, where a man reported a handgun, laptop and organizer containing miscellaneous electronic items missing from his vehi cle. •entering an automobile or other motor vehicle with the intent to commit theft or a felony, financial transac tion card theft and theft by taking at a Treemont Trace, Winder, residence, where a man reported credit cards, debit card, Georgia driver’s license and fuel card miss ing from his truck. •driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked on Atlanta Highway SE at Hog Mountain Road, Wind er, where a traffic stop was conducted on the driver of a Ford Fusion. •criminal trespass at a Rebekah Drive, Bethlehem, residence, where a man reported damage to his mail box. •criminal trespass at a J.B. Owens Road, Bethlehem, residence, where a man reported damage to his mail box. •possession of marijuana and driving without a driv er’s license on person on Kilcrease Road, Auburn, at a license checkpoint. •recovered stolen property at a Creekwood Road, Winder, residence, where a stolen 1995 Honda Accord was found. Woman has gun pulled on her at Braselton bar Man ‘entices’ 16-year-old female juvenile online A man is suspected of enticing a juvenile for indecent purposes in Braselton. A woman came into the Braselton Police Department last week to report a man had been contacting her 16-year-old daughter online. The daughter had created an account on Omegle.com and said she met a boy named Charlie, who claimed to be 17-years-old. The two had been talking on Skype for a month. The mother showed officers sexually explicit messages sent from “Charlie” to her daughter. The teenager had sent nude photos to the man. The woman said her daughter video conferenced with the man, but he would not show himself over video and only sent messages. But he could see her daughter over video on his computer. The mother sent messages to the man, telling him to stop contacting her daughter. She then called the man and he accidentally answered with his cam era on. The woman saw a white male, bald with a white mustache who tried to cover the camera to avoid being seen. The daughter later told her mother that the man’s real name was Mark. Officers saw the name on the Skype account said “Charlie,” with a loca tion set in the United Kingdom. OTHER INCIDENTS Other incidents reported to the BPD last week were: • possession of marijuana and a drug-related object at Waffle House on Hwy. 53. A man was standing against a car door in the parking lot and placed something in his pocket when the patrol car drove by. Offi cers asked him what he put in his pocket and he handed him two bags of marijuana. He said he was “just trying to make some money.” Offi cers found a marijuana pipe in his pocket. He was issued citations. • hit and run at a Hwy. 53 location. A man said someone struck his vehi cle in the Dairy Queen parking lot. • damage to property at mile mark er 128 on 1-85 North. A man said his vehicle was struck by an unknown object from the roadway. • theft by taking at a Grand Hicko ry Drive location. A woman said her father’s firearms were missing. She said they were kept in a locked case in the bedroom closet. The bedroom door was also locked. She woke up to a car alarm and her father jumped up to get his pistol. It was then that he noticed the case had been broken and his Glock was missing. She identified a suspect but officers were unable to contact him. • speeding and possession of mar ijuana at mile marker 128.5 on 1-85 North. Officers stopped the car for driving 90 miles-per-hour. The driv er was issued a citation and officers asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle. He said, “no,” but officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. When asked about the smell, he said he smoked it last night. But officers knew the smell was raw mar ijuana (not burnt). When told officers were going to search the vehicle, the driver told them marijuana was in the center console. They found marijuana rolled in two cigar blunts. Winder Police Department Arrests continued from 7A BCES golf tournament at Providence Club to benefit AMVETS Post 12 Barrow County Emergency Services is joining with the AMVETS Post 12 and Barrow County CERT to host a golf tournament on Monday, Sept. 19. at the Providence Country Club. “The first annual ABC golf tournament will be a lot of fun and help these three great organizations in the work they do,” said Chief John Skinner. “We still have room for sponsors and golfers so come join us and help us in raising money.” The money that is raised will be split between the three organizations. Through the money raised by this tournament AMVETS Post 12 will be helping local wounded warriors. They will also be working with homeless veterans and some of our elderly citizens. Barrow County CERT will be utilizing the money to pur chase needed supplies and equipment. Barrow County Emergency Services will be utilizing funds raised during the tournament to support the Barrow Fire Foundation. This Foundation works with and develops programs that improve and enrich the lives of members of the depart ment and the citizens of Barrow County. Registration for the ABC golf tourna ment starts at 8 a.m. with a shot gun tee- off at 9 a.m. Cost is $400 a team or $100 a golfer and includes lunch from Chik-fil-A in Winder. It also features lots of raffle prizes, longest drive competition, and closest to the pin. A hole in one can also give you a chance to win a vehicle courtesy of Akins Ford.
