Winder Police Department incidents WPD responds to vehicle break-ins The Winder Police Department recently responded to several vehi cle break-ins on Exchange Boulevard in the area of the Carmike Movie The ater and Perfect 10 Nails and Spa. Five vehicle owners reported that their vehicles had been broken into on Aug. 4, while they were parked in the parking lot. OTHER INCIDENTS Other recent incidents reported to WPD included: •no insurance on 2nd Street, where a driver was stopped for not having the proper temporary tag on her vehicle. •recovered stolen prop erty on Georgia Avenue, where a man reported see ing a male riding a bike that had previously been stolen from his residence. •disorderly conduct at a Saint Anthony Drive resi dence, where a male was reportedly being violent towards his brother. •financial transaction card fraud at a Harpy Eagle Drive residence, where a man reported be believed his Walmart.com account had been tampered with because he received an email stating three items had been purchased and his account was "frozen.” •duty upon striking an unattended vehicle at Los Vaqueros Mexican Restau rant on Monroe High way, where a vehicle was reportedly damaged while parked in the parking lot. •financial transaction card fraud at a Pinkney Street residence, where a female reported multiple debit withdrawals from her bank account that she did not make. •outstanding warrant service at a traffic stop at Victor Lord Park on 2nd Street. •financial transaction card fraud and theft by deception at a North Myr tle Street residence, where a woman reported giving her credit card information to a man who called and threatened her with legal action due to an unpaid magazine subscription. The complainant stated she checked her credit card account and a cou ple of fraudulent charges had been made. She also stated a second credit card account had multiple fraudulent charges show ing up on it as well. •failure to appear on University Parkway, where a female was picked up from Gwinnett County law enforcement. •no insurance, knowing ly driving a motor vehicle on a suspended, cancelled or revoked registration, open container violation, possession of metham phetamine, outstanding warrant and sale of meth amphetamine on East Ath ens Street, where a traf fic stop was initiated on the driver of a Mitsubishi Galant. •driving while driver's license is suspended or revoked and no insurance on Hal Jackson Road, where a traffic stop was initiated on the driver of a Hyundai Elantra. •theft by taking at a Richardson Street resi dence, where a female reported the theft of pack ages from her porch. •simple battery at a Horton Street residence, where a man reported being assaulted with an axe handle by another man who accused him of steal ing a line trimmer. The complainant said he was in Memphis, Tenn., at the time the trimmer was sto len. •speeding, no insurance and knowingly driving a motor vehicle on a suspend ed, cancelled or revoked registration on Gainesville Highway, where a vehicle was stopped for speeding. •driving under the influ ence (DUI) of alcohol on North Broad Street, where the driver of a Nissan Sen- tra reportedly jumped the curb and struck a small tree, •criminal trespass at an East Wright Street resi dence, where a domestic dispute was reported. The complainant stated a male and female were in the roadway outside the resi dence yelling at each other. •DUI - alcohol, hit and run: duty of the driver to stop at or return to the scene of an accident and improper lane change/ failure to maintain lane at Dairy Queen on West May Street, where the driver of a van reportedly rear-end ed a Chevrolet Camaro in the drive-through lane. •theft by taking at a North Broad Street loca tion, where a female reported the theft of her bank card. •failure to yield right-of- way at a yield sign, open container violation, DUI - drugs, willful obstruc tion of law enforcement officers and outstanding warrant at a North Broad Street location where a traffic stop was initiated on the driver of a Toyota 4Runner. •no insurance at Dairy Queen on West May Street, where a traffic stop was initiated on the driver of a Honda Accord. 'trespassing/entry upon property at an Elm Street boarding house, where a male, whom had been restricted from the proper ty, was found hiding in the fireplace behind a mirror of one of the rooms. •theft by taking at Bar- row Regional Medical Center on North Broad Street, where a patient’s wallet was reported miss ing from the safe. •death investigation at the Barrow County Senior Center on Lee Street, where an 85-year-old male had fallen and was bleed ing from the head. He was later pronounced dead. •vehicle blocking the roadway on Sims Road at Lakeshore Drive, where a truck was towed from the area due to being a traffic hazard. •theft by taking at a Windsor Drive residence, where a man reported his 1973 Schmelke pool cue stick had been stolen. •theft by taking at a Wood Avenue residence, where a man reported the theft of a wheel off his vehicle. •damage to property at Beginnings Outreach on North Jackson Street, where the complainant reported a cracked win dow on the front of the building. •burglary at a Jerome Street residence, where the complainants reported someone kicked in their back door and ransacked their home. The female complainant stated her vehicle had also been bro ken into. •aggravated battery, cru elty to children and family violence battery at a Wind er location, where a female had reportedly been hit by her boyfriend during a domestic dispute. •theft by taking at Wind er Coin Laundry on West May Street, where a female reported the theft of her phone she was charging while she walked up the street to McDonalds. •theft by taking at a Hor ton Street residence, where a man reported the theft of his wallet. •hit and run; duty of the driver to stop at or return to the scene of an accident at Zaxby’s on East May Street, where the driver of a Ford Mustang reported the driver of a Ford Taurus struck the rear of his vehi cle while he was stopped in traffic. The driver of the Taurus stated his vehicle was struck from behind by a black SUV that did not stop. See Winder on Page 8A Statham Police Department SPD to host -meet and greed The City of Statham will host a "meet and greet” on Friday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the Statham Community Center. The event will allow citizens to meet local police officers with the Statham Police Department.
