Pictured (L-R) are: captain Scott Dakin; lieutenant Keith Jarrett; firefighter Robert Solomon; firefighter Crosby Harbin; firefighter Chris Barron; Koen Vinson; Brenda Vinson; battalion chief Rob Nowakowski; firefighter John Van Gotum; lieutenant Jeremy Thayer; and firefighter Mark Siegel. J ust after 10:00 on a Sat urday morning in April, communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Ser vices (BCES) received a 911 call reporting an accident on Hwy. 316 at Patrick Mill Road. “Several people called this accident in and reported an over turned vehicle and several peo ple trapped in their vehicles,” commented Captain Scott Dakin. “When we arrived, we found a two vehicle collision with one vehicle on its side.” Crews with BCES found two people in the SUV that was on its side. One of these patients was Brenda Vinson, the driver of the vehicle that had rolled over. Paramedics found her unrespon sive with some obvious injuries. One person was assigned to monitor the two patients, while other crew members started extrication and cared for patients in the other vehicle. Firefighters from Stations 3, 4 and 7 responded to this incident. Working together they removed the roof of the SUV in order to gain access to the two patients. Once the roof was removed crews were able to better assess Vinson and remove her from the vehicle. “It was obvious to us that Vin son had suffered some critical injuries as a result of the acci dent,” said Capt. Dakin. “We knew that she needed to be treat ed and transported to a hospital as quickly as possible.” Paramedics worked quickly to prepare Vinson for transport and treat her injuries. She was rushed to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville where she was turned over to the emergency room staff. Among Vinson’s injuries was bleeding from her brain, a col lapsed lung, broken ribs and spine and multiple pelvic frac tures. Vinson would spend five days in the Nero ICU unresponsive. On that Thursday she started waking up to the world around her again. Vinson was transferred to Glancy Rehabilitation Center, where she had to learn to walk, eat and talk all over again. She would stay at the center until May 10, steadily improving while doing therapy three hours a day. She is now back to work with a new outlook on life and thankful for the many people that worked together to save her life. Recently, Vinson stopped by Barrow County Emergency Ser vices Station 7 to thank the fire fighters that all worked to save her. “I thank God for putting every one in place to make everything work in my favor,” said Vinson. “Everyone worked together to make a difference in my life. From the firefighters, to the staff at Gwinnett Medical and Glancy Rehab. I am forever grateful to God and all of them for the fact that I am alive and well and stay ing on this earth for now.” Everyone, from the communi cation officers who dispatched the call, to the firefighters on scene worked quickly and effi ciently in order to extricate Vin son and transport her to the hos pital. “Having Brenda come by the station today meant a lot to us,” said Capt. Dakin. “We don’t often know the results of our efforts with patients. Knowing her condition and chances when we pulled her from the car, to how well she is now is incred ible.” “This type of call is what we all train hard for as crews,” said Chief John Skinner. “We work together, train on the newest techniques, and stay up with the best possible patient care. Bren da’s life is a result of this train ing and care and I could not be prouder of the work these crews did. They all are a great example of the high quality personnel in our department that serve the citizens of Barrow County.” BCSO Arrests Sheriff’s Office reports numerous arrests The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office reports the recent arrests of the following individuals: •Kathryn Sierra Lerch, 26, 130 Ashwood Court, Winder, simple battery - Family Violence Act (FVA). •Michael Anthony Crawford, 32, 25 River Mist Drive, Hoschton, probation violation. •Terri Lynn Wolfe, 30, 133 Hill Street, Winder, failure to appear. •Andre Javier Samayoa, 19, 720 Fletcher Drive, Winder, driving without a valid driver’s license, improper lane change/failure to maintain lane, seat belt violations, defective tires, too fast for condi tions and reckless driving. •Amber Marie Gwaltney, 29, 2215 Mitchell Road, Lawrencev ille, theft by shoplifting. •Levi Chance Brockman, 20, 68 Azalea Way, Jefferson, outstanding warrant and failure to appear. •Amber Nicole Masters, 31, 2632 Commander Drive, Gainesville, probation violation. •Lizzie Christine Davis, 37, 170 Swamp Guinea Road, Colbert, pro bation violation. •Antwon Gerrell Johnson, 34,231 Dreamland Circle, Winder, failure to appear and probation violation. •Tyrone Jamaal Gilkes, 36, 222 Brooks Lane, Winder, robbery and theft by taking. •Matthew Daron Haulk, 26,1110- B Pebble Stone Drive, Watkinsville, failure to register vehicle and pro bation violation. •John William Cronic, 43, 3551 Smith Chapel Road, Bethlehem, failure to appear and probation vio lation. •Maria Del Rocio Burciaga-Ra- mos, 41, 317 Hillside Court, Wind er, seat belt violations, speeding and driving without a valid driver’s license. •Chadwick Wayne Agan, 44, 103 Dogwood Lane, Auburn, parole violation. •Thomas Wayne Millis Jr., 45, 11 Jefferson Road, Statham, probation violation. •Christopher Leon Autry, 28, 103 Finnigan Drive, Winder, simple bat tery - FVA. •Francois Richerd Tonnah, 22, 1506 Wilson Manor Circle, Law renceville, failure to appear. •Erica Danielle Garrett, 28, 426 Graystone Drive, Winder, con tempt of Superior Court, obtain ing, attempting or obtain dangerous drugs by fraud, forgery or conceal ment of facts, forgery, failure to appear and probation violation. •Maximo Manzano-Velasco, 33, 5267 Old Norcross Road, Norcross, driving without a valid driver’s license. •Terry Chad Helton, 43, 815 Harry McCarty Road, Bethlehem, probation violation. •John Henry Beaver, 33, 125 McElroy Street, Winder, possession of methamphetamine, theft by tak ing and probation violation. •Katie Bradford Thacker, 41, 198 Parks Mill Road, Auburn, probation violation. •Paul S.
