Barry, Jr., 73, passed away
on Monday, December 5,
2016.
He was a resident of Jef
ferson for 15 years before
moving
to Ocala,
Fla. for 16
years, and
had recently
returned to the Athens area.
He was a member of Faith
Baptist Church in Jefferson.
Kenneth retired after 30
years from the United Par
cel Service and was a vet
eran of the United States
Army Reserves. He loved
NASCAR, ice cream, pop-
sicles, and cribbage, which
he taught to all his grand
children. Mr. Barry was
preceded in death by his
parents, Kenneth Barry Sr.
and Susan Boiros Barry; and
his daughter. Dawn Louise
Barry.
Survivors include his wife,
Barbara Brawner Barry; two
daughters, Rhonda (Ray)
Chapman and Jennifer
(Neil) Pratt; one son, Brad
ley Lacey; a brother, Ronald
Barry, and a sister, Sylvia
Phillips; six grandchildren,
Chris Chapman, Amber
Chapman, Joshua Chapman,
Mary Pratt, Kendrick Pratt,
and Hollie Kennedy; and
one great-grandchild.
The funeral service will
take place on Wednesday,
December 7, at 5 p.m. at
Lord and Stephens, East
Chapel. The family will
receive friends at the funer
al home from 3 to 5 p.m.
before the service. The fam
ily encourages casual dress.

Air Force

retired from

States Air Force. Mr. Dean
was of the Southern Baptist
denomination. He was pre
ceded in death by his wife,
Gloria Jean Golden Dean;
and brother, Carlise “Bud"
Dean.
Survivors include his

agent and appraiser. He was
a passionate, strong loving
man who loved his children
more than anything and was
proud to be their father. Mr.
Kimbrough was preceded in
death by his father, Walter
Kimbrough; and grandfa
thers, Phil Vanderford and
James Rosser Kimbrough.

Ruth Underwood
Ruth Kent Underwood left
this earth to
meet her
Lord and
Savior on
Wednes
day,
November
23, 2016,
after 90
years of a
life filled
with love of her family, her
church, and her schoolchil
dren.
Sharing vegetables with
neighbors, teaching Sunday
School, and taking flowers
to nearby nursing homes
made her happy. She loved
reading, gardening, and
traveling. No one left her
home hungry; cooking and
feeding visitors was a rule.
For over thirty years she
taught kindergarteners, first
graders, and second graders
to love books and reading.
She graduated from Lanier
High School in Lakeland,
Ga. in 1944, was awarded
her bachelor’s degree from
Georgia State College for
Women in 1948; and earned
her master's degree from
the University of Georgia
in 1975. She was elected
a Leader of American Ele
mentary Education in 1971
“in recognition of contribu
tions to the advancement of
elementary education and
service to community.”
Survivors include her hus
band of 64 years, Lowell
Milner Underwood, Greens
boro, Ga.; daughters, Gwen
Underwood Steele, Burle
son, Texas and Linda Under
wood Mosely, St. Simon’s
Island, and Joy Underwood
Carlson, Granville, Ohio;
grandchildren, Taryn Gould-
ing, Todd Barnett, Christo
pher Carlson, and Nathaniel
Carlson; and three great
grandchildren, Kyler and
Mandy Goulding and Coral
Ann Zyblot Barnett. She
instilled in all of her chil
dren and grandchildren a
love of reading and learn
