ful servant at the Commerce
First Methodist Church
since 1946.

Holland Phillips, 84, went to
be with the Lord on Sunday,
December 11, 2016.
Ms. Phillips was born on
August 9, 1932, in Monti-
cello. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Oscar
and Eugenia Holland. Ms.
Phillips was of the Meth
odist denomination. She
was an elementary school
teacher, beginning her career
in Atlanta, for four years.
She then moved to Com
merce and taught there for
31 years.
Survivors include her
daughter and son-in-law,
Mary and Kerry Marsh,
Sautee, Ga.; daughter, Jean
Rogers, Cleveland, Ga.; and
grandchildren, Allen Marsh,
Taylor Rogers, and Clayton
Rogers.
Memorial services are
scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday,
December 16, at Whitfield
Funeral Home, North Cha
pel, Demorest, with Pastor
Roger Bourgeois officiat

JD Royston
ROYSTON JD
Royston, 87, went to be with
his heavenly father on Satur
day, December 10, 2016, at
6 a.m. in the Oaks in Athens.
His wife Shirley was by his
side.
Mr. Royston was born on
March 28, 1929, in Royston,
the son of the late Dewey
Clifford Royston and Ven-
nie Scoggins Royston. JD
grew up as a boy in Madison
County and attended Bonds
Academy School. The fam
ily moved to Royston when
he was 15. JD began work
at the Royston Mill when
he was 16 years old and
worked there for 65 years.
JD was a faithful member of
the Royston Baptist Church,
where he served as an usher,
a member of the communion
committee, and a member of
the house and grounds com
mittee. He enjoyed working
outdoors in his yards and
growing a bountiful garden.
He loved giving produce to
his friends and family. JD
married Shirley Partain on
July 31, 1971.
Survivors include his wife,
Shirley Partain Royston; his
sisters and brothers-in-law,
Betty and Doyle Brooks,
Franklin Springs, and Hazel
and Donald David, Royston;
brother and sister-in-law,

Lord; he would say “singing
and praising the Lord.”

Jefferson on July 5, 1948, the
son of the late Eva Voyles.
He was a propane gas truck
driver and was of the Baptist
denomination. Mr. Voyles
was preceded in death by a

Bonnie White
Bonnie White, 72, loved
by all her family and friends,
passed away in her home on
December 2, 2016.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla.,
Bonnie grew up bathed in the
south Florida sunshine and
surrounded by the love of
her extended family where
she was blessed to have her
cousins as her best friends.
After graduating from South
Broward High School she
attended the University of
Georgia where she earned
her Bachelor's in Education,

She spent

ity of her teaching years in
a kindergarten classroom,
where she developed a pas
sion for reading readiness
skills and earned Teacher of
the Year in 1994. She retired
from teaching in 2015.
Bonnie danced her way
through life, literally. She
studied ballet, tap, and jazz
as a child and kept danc
ing in one form or another
throughout her life. She
loved to attend her Zumba
classes for as long as she
was able. Bonnie's fam
ily and friends loved her
clever wit and will remem
ber fondly playing tennis,
golf, bridge, and Mexican
dominoes with her, mostly
because she always played
to have fun with those she
was with. It was this time
with her family and friends
that she most treasured.
Bonnie found a love of
travel the last 20 years of
her life visiting many of
the great cities of Europe.
After retiring she maintained
her active lifestyle and still
found time to giving back
to her community through
volunteer service at a local
hospital.
Bonnie is survived by her
two children, son, Ty (Amy)
White; daughter, Shay
(Chad) Lemond; four grand
children, Nicole White,
Chandler White, Lily Lem
ond, and Vaughn Lemond;
one brother, Lyndon Kirk
land, Jr. She leaves behind
many cherished cousins and
friends, who will remember
her always as the beautiful
and special lady she was.

celebrate Bonnie's life will
be held on December 20,
2016 at 2:00 p.m. at her
church home, Hamilton Mill

over 20 years.
Ray's passion and love
was centered around his
faith in God, his family and
fatherhood. Ray enjoyed
spending time with his fami
