WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2016 BARROW NEWS-JOURNAL PAGE 5A The left and its anxieties It used to be that nights in Geor gia were soothing and relaxing. At evening we could step out side and hear the night sounds of the the Great Horned Owl, the Whippoorwill and the Chuck- wills widow. Since November, all we have heard are the great banshee wail ings of the left, the liberals who feel betrayed and who are sure they were cheated out of the pres idential election. Frankly, I’ve been surprised that they haven’t protested the rising of the sun every morning. The social media platform would collect cobwebs if the liberals didn’t have it to sound off on by the hour. What’s really interesting is the fact that these are the same people who demonstrated their anxieties and concerns about Republican pres idential candidate Donald Trump. If you recall early on the left were concerned as to whether or not Trump would accept the results of the 2016 election. Remember their questions and outrage? Now who is yelling foul? There just doesn’t seem to be fair play rules any more. The liberal left has one set of rules in their playbook and they only apply to them. It all began with Barack Obama eight years ago when he reminded members of Congress that the Dem ocrats had won and they were creat ing the new standard of rule. If you don’t believe it, ask Sen. John McCain. McCain can quote the day, time and verse of the occurrence. It didn’t stop there with McCain, but now the shoe is shifting to the other foot. The only thing different and “offi cial” at this time is that Trump won the 2016 presidential election. On the first Thursday of Novem ber, the left’s flagship went into a tail spin, crashing toward Earth. Liberals have a tendency to whine when things don’t go their way, and the presidential loss really moved them onto center stage. December hasn’t been any dif ferent. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee describes the left as being, “ugly, rude and intolerant” and now they are upside- down, like a turtle trapped on his back. Town Hall, a media source, reported a quote in New York Magazine from a 45 year-old Atlanta woman who said, that she “...cried for three days...” (after the election) and that it was the worst thing that ever happened in her life. Kevin Allred, a lecturer at Rutgers University, was sent to a hospital for a mental evaluation after Hillary Clinton’s defeat because of tweets he sent out threatening to “kill white people.” (See editor’s note at the end of this column.) A day after the election, a Muslim student at the University of Lou isiana reported that she had been robbed and her burka ripped off by two white men wearing Trump caps. She later admitted to police that she had lied about the incident and fabricated the story. A black woman in Smyrna, Del. posted on social media that she was accosted and threatened by Trump supporters while pumping gas at a service station. She later posted that she reported the incident to police and that the subjects had been detained and iden tified. News sources trying to follow up on the incident were unable to find any police reports or arrests on file in or around Smyrna. No such incident was ever found to be on record. Remember how the liberals and the media made fun of Trump during the campaign when he argued that he was concerned about a “rigged election?” Trump was crucified by the media, cartoonists and the Democrats for even suggesting such a thing could happen. Now, that’s all we have heard since the election in November. The Democrats are yelling Trump won in a rigged election even though only days before they were laughing at such a possibility and categorical ly stating it couldn’t happen. Then, after the popular vote was in, the liberal left turned its attention to the Electoral College, praying that it would override the states votes. When it became obvious Trump would win through the Electoral College, the left began to attack the college and our forefathers for designing such a thing. After the left campaigned against the Electoral College they, and the national media, have now taken up a charge that the Republicans won because of fake news. Maybe Trump’s supporters did use some fake news on social media prior to the election, but the real fake news appears to have been pro duced by the national media who kept reporting poll after poll with Clinton leading, sometimes by more than average percentage points. In addition to the polls, the media bashed the Trump campaign from day one while putting the Clinton campaign on a winner’s platform that hid all of the reports on the Clin ton Foundation and the failures of Clinton in everything she had done over the years. Today the media is now whin ing about being mistreated by the president-elect. Tomorrow it will be something else. Mother always said, “Be patient. What goes around, comes around!” Hallelujah! Jimmy Terrell is a retired law enforcement official. He can be reached at ejterrell@gmail.com. Editor’s note'. The tweet in ques tion by Allred said, “Will the (Sec ond)i Amendment be as cool when I buy a gun and start shooting at random white people or no?” Caregivers sought for veterans’ program Qualified caregivers are needed for the Veterans Med ical Foster Home program managed by the Charlie Nor wood VA Medical Center. Applicants would provide physical and mental health care to veterans who are in need of a family. Applicants must be 21 to apply. “We’re seeking competent and compassionate caregiv ers,” said Hallie Cheek, Medical Foster Home coordina tor for the VA services out of Augusta. “The veteran is unable to live independently, but does not wish to live in a skilled nursing facility.” The veteran pays to reside in a VA-screened and approved medical foster home with private funds like Social Security, VA aid and attendance, or service-con nected disability compensation. The veteran’s primary medical care is managed by the VA’s interdisciplinary home-based primary care team or spinal cord injury home care. The rates of the foster home are negotiated between the veteran and the caregiver, and are based on the veteran's ability to pay as well as the level of care that is required. Caregivers must be financially stable, own or rent their home, and have either formal or informal caregiving experience. A medical foster home caregiver must be willing to accept veterans without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion or national origin.
