Ola Mae Allen
Ola Mae Barbee Allen celebrat
ed her 94th birthday Sunday, Janu
ary 15, 2017, at her residence in
the Rogers Community of Madison
County surrounded by family and
friends. Then she went home to
celebrate eternally the same after
noon. She had been homebound
for 2 Vi months following a fall and
brief illness.
She was a member of Rogers
Baptist Church, having taught chil
dren’s Sunday School classes, sang
in the choir, and fixed the com
munion table for many years. Ola
Mae worked at Blue Bell sewing
plant and Harmony Grove Mill until
1961. She liked cooking, garden
ing, and gospel music.
Ola Mae Allen was born in Kan
napolis, N.C. on January 15, 1923,
the daughter of the late Clarence
R. Barbee and Ethel Whitley Bar
bee. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Floyd Allen; daugh
ter, Karen Allen; and sister, Verna
Castor.
Survivors include Brenda Wat
kins (Charles) of the Rogers Com
munity; brothers, Earl Barbee of
Kannapolis, N.C. and Ray Barbee
of Bryant, Ariz.; and many nieces
and nephews.
Heartfelt thanks to the many
friends who have reached out with
thoughts and prayers. Special
thanks to caregivers, Peggy Col
lins and Lisa Collins during the
difficult days of her illness. Your
loving care and help will never be
forgotten.
Services were held Wednes
day, January 18, at Rogers Bap
tist Church in Commerce, with the
Revs. Daniel Vestal, Carlton Peters
and Dugar Strickland officiating.
Interment was in the church cem
etery.

Mr. Avant was born in Hillsboro,
Ga., the son of the late Fred and
Evelyn Frances Key Avant. He was
a member of Union Baptist Church
and attended the Jackson County
Senior Cen
ter. Mr. Avant
first retired as
a dairy farmer
and then again
from the State
of Georgia as
a correctional
officer. He
was preceded
in death by his
wife, Rhonda
Eubanks Avant;
and a brother, Jerry Avant.

Ga., the son

Cicero Ben
nett, Sr. and Emma Peck Bennett,
and was of the Baptist denomi
nation. Mr. Bennett retired from
the United States Army, where he
proudly served his country with
honor during the Vietnam War, and
later retired from Reliance Electric
Company. He was preceded in
death by his wife and mother of his
children, Gail Manus Bennett; and
a daughter, Karen Adams.
Survivors include his wife, Bren
da Cannady Bennett, Statesboro;
son Brian Bennett and his wife
Lisa, Jefferson, son, Kevin Bennett,
Nicholson; and ten grandchildren.

day, January 15, from the chapel

chi, 73, passed away Sunday, Janu
ary 15, 2017.
Born in Tallahassee, she was the
daughter of the late A.D. Hewett
and Mary Moody Hewett. Mrs.
Bianchi worked part-time for the
Madison County Library, and was
a member of Community Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her husband
of over 50 years, Cedrick Bian
chi; three children, James Bianchi
(Lissa), Chrissy Dowdy (Landy)
and Sandi Stilwell (Shawn); 12
grandchildren; and two great
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, January 19, at 2 p.m., at
Lord and Stephens, Danielsville.
Interment will be at Danielsville
Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will
be Tyler Fletcher, Drake Fletcher,
Tyler Stilwell, Allen Bianchi, Wil
liam Bianchi and Brandon Fagan.

Jewell Church
Jewell Virginia Church, 79, lov
ingly known as “GJ” to her grand
children and family, as well as
“Miss Jewell” to her many loyal
customers and deli family at Hull,
Ingles, ended her life here peace
fully with her prayers answered,
surrounded by family and closest
friends.
Born June 19, 1937 in Idabel,
Okla. and spent many years in Dal
las, Texas, Jewell moved to Madi
son County (by way of Wilkesboro,
N.C.), where she lived for the last
30 years. She worked in the deli at
Ingles, Hull, for the last 15 years,
where she made their chicken salad
better than anyone else and incor
porated her own recipes into some
of the customer’s favorite menu
items.
She was preceded in death by
her mother, father, her husband of
25 years, Clem Church, her son,
Alden Burch, three brothers, and
one sister.
Survivors include her children,
Sharon (Jim) Hudspeth, Denise
(Doug) Kesler, DRee Church-
Krohn, Clemoth (Chris) Church;
15 grandchildren, Hunter (Cyn
thia), Holly, Julie (David), Joshua
(Crystal), Christopher (Holly),
Brooke (Ryan), Kayde (Zach),
Megan (Joshua Whitworth), Jack,
Luke, Maddie, Mac, Emily, Hunter
(Amanda) and Wyatt; and eight
great-grandchildren; as well as
many extended family members
and her Ingles market friends.

January 14, at Oconee Chapel in

Oconee Memorial Park.

maker and of the Baptist denomi
nation. Mrs. Dove was preceded
in death by her husband, Ernest

Northeast Georgia Medical Center
on January 6, 2017.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Virgil and Macie Bon
ner, her siblings, Carol, Marie, and
Ricky, and her son, Jeral Jerry Jr.
She is survived by her hus
band, Robert Stinson Sr., her sib
lings, Jimmy, Jerry, Eulene, and
Wanda, her step-daughter Tammy
Lea Bryan, her niece Tawana, her
grandchildren, Corey and Courtney
Lambert, Toby Moore, Tess Wilson,
Sydney and Josh Gregg, Kaylyn
Hammond, and her great-grandchil
dren, Chloe and Kristine Moore.
Affectionately known as “Maw-
maw” by her grandchildren, Lin
da’s heart overflowed with love and
warmth for her family, both biologi
cal and chosen. Sweet little Linda
could turn into a spitfire if she
needed to protect her family! Linda
was deeply loved by her community
wherever she went. Linda cared
for her fellow residents at Grand
view skilled nursing facility with
every bit of strength she had. She
sincerely lived in Christ’s image
by dedicating her life to care for
those who were the most helpless.
She spoiled every one of her dogs
and loved them dearly. She loved
the music of George Strait, Dolly
Parton, and Conway Twitty. She
was an avid Braves fan all her life.
Her talent for gardening brought
cheer to her as well as those around
her. She was not one for material
possessions, instead treasuring her
loved ones. She was truly rich in
spirit. Her warmth, her smile, her
strength and her humor will be
sorely missed.
The memorial will be at Smith
Heights in Winder, the date of the
memorial is TBA. She is loved to
infinity and beyond, and even more
than that.

Billy McCarty
Billy McCarty, 77, husband
of Shirley Logan McCarty for 53
years, died Sunday, January 15,
2017, at Piedmont Athens Regional
Hospital.
Born in Madison County, he was
the son of the
late Bennie and
Montez Herring
McCarty. Mr.
McCarty served
in the Army Reserves and was a
lifetime member of Colbert First
Baptist Church. He retired from
the United States Postal Service.
Mr. McCarty enjoyed farming and
gardening, was a certified disas
ter recovery volunteer, and served
twice for the Georgia Disaster
Group assisting with Hurricane
Katrina victims in New Orleans.
He was a beloved husband, father
and Papa Billy. He was preceded
in death by his siblings, Josephine
Fowler, Jimmy McCarty, Charles
McCarty and Janie Jones.

min McCarty, Colbert, and Wil
liam Edward McCarty, Jr. (Kathy),

Mary Tuggle
COMMERCE - Mary Gary
Tuggle, 83, entered into rest Sun
day, January 15, 2017.
Mrs. Tuggle was born in Com
merce, the daughter of the late
William and Cannada Taylor Gary.
She was a homemaker and mother
to her children. Mrs. Tuggle was
preceded in death by her husband,
George M. Tuggle; a sister, Darrell
LeWallen; and brother, Otis Gary.
Survivors include two sons, Stan
ley Tuggle and his wife Mickey,
Sharpsburg, Mark Tuggle and his
wife Jenan, Jefferson; two daugh
ters, Kathy Cook and her husband
Brad, Powder Springs, and Kim
berly Coleman, Powder Springs;
sisters, Lillie Bruce, Homer, Mar-
thy Caudell, Baldwin; two brothers,
W.W. (Jr) Gary, Commerce, and
Robert Gary, Marietta; 13 grand
children; two great-grandchildren;
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held
Wednesday, January 18, from the
chapel of Evans Funeral Home with
Mark Tuggle officiating.

Donna Wall
STATHAM - Donna B. Wall,
76, passed away Tuesday, January
10, 2017.
She was a native of Savannah.
Donna was a secretary and worked
in the marketing department at The
University of Georgia for many
years. She was Catholic and a
member of St. Catherine Laboure’
Catholic Church in Jefferson.
Donna served her community for
many years helping with Meals on
Wheels. She was preceded in death
by her parents, Robert M. Williams
Sr. and Dorothy Isabelle Horrell
Williams; and a brother, William
Alfred Becker Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Jim
Wall, Buford, Chuck Wall (Terry),
Birmingham and Chris Wall
(Tasha), Sugar Hill; a daughter,
Holli Morrow (Ashley), Winder;
and a brother, Robert M. Williams
Jr. (Cheryl), Blackshear; and eight
grandchildren.
A memorial service was held
Friday, January 13, in the chapel of
Smith Funeral Home with Father
Vincent Sullivan officiating.
Donations may be made to St.
Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Margie Crawford
NICHOLSON Margie Craw
ford, 88, died Monday, January 16,
2017, at Athens Regional Medical
Center.
Mrs. Crawford was born in
Maysville, the daughter of the late
Luther and Decie Dixon Hudson.
She was a member of Calvary Bap
tist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband,
Bobby Crawford, Nicholson;
children, Ruth Doyle, Sylvania,
Dwayne Campbell, Statham, Danny
Campbell, Hull, Beverly Yarbrough,
Bogart, Will Campbell, Hull, Teresa
Abbott, Hull and Keith Crawford,
Nicholson; 15 grandchildren; and a
number of great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11
a.m., Thursday, January 19, at
the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral
Home with the Revs. Marty Smith,
Mike Stowers and Larry Dyer offi
ciating. Interment will follow in
Howington Cemetery. The family
will receive friends at the funeral
home Wednesday, January 18, from
6 to 8 p.m.

Royce Bunn, Sr.
WINDER - Royce E. Bunn, Sr.,
76, of Winder, passed away Mon
day, January 16, 2017.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Reba Elder Bunn; par
ents, Richard and Lillian Bunn; and
brothers, Charles Edward Bunn and
Richard “Sonny” Bunn. A native
of Alabama, Mr. Bunn had resided
in Winder for most of his life. He
was a member of Gospel Light
Baptist Church and was employed
as a welder at Portec Railcar Manu
facturing.
Survivors include a son, Royce
“Eddie” Bunn, Winder; brother
and sister-in-law, Bobby Shelton
and Elsie Bunn, Monroe; sister and
brother-in-law, Blanch and Kenneth
Skelton, Bethlehem; sister-in-law,
Juanita Elder Sauls, Winder; and a
number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, January 19, at 11 a.m.,
from the chapel of Carter Funer
al Home with the Revs. Rodney
Queen and Les Vinluan officiating.
Interment will be in Bethabra Bap
tist Church Cemetery. The fam
ily will receive friends Wednesday,
January 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the
funeral home.
