Barrow County Sheriff’s Office Arrests
Maryland woman charged with vehicle theft following chase
A Maryland woman was
arrested for vehicle theft and
other charges early Saturday
morning following a high-speed
chase that began in Winder and
ended in downtown Athens.
According to incident reports
from the Winder Police Depart
ment and Barrow County Sher
iff’s Office, Heather Christina
Lyons, 31, 1701 Baltimore Ave.
1, Ocean City, Md., was seen
by a deputy speeding in a stolen
pickup truck along East May
Street shortly before 2:30 a.m.
and being followed by three
Winder police vehicles.
A Winder officer had deter
mined the vehicle was reported
stolen after doing a random tag
check on it when he spotted it on
East Athens Street.
Lyons was clocked at over 100
miles per hour during the chase,
which ended in the area of West
Broad and Pulaski streets in Ath
ens when spike strips deployed
by Athens-Clarke County police
deflated two of the car’s tires.
Lyons was ordered out of the car
at gunpoint and was placed into
custody.
Carlos Gonzalez, III, of
Gainesville, was in the vehicle
with Lyons at the time and was
found to have an outstanding
arrest warrant out of Maryland
but was released from that charge
when deputies were advised the
other agency did not wish for
him to be extradited. Gonzalez
admitted to knowing he was in a
stolen vehicle, according to the
report and was arrested by the
city on that charge.
Lyons’ charges included: theft
by receiving stolen property,
theft by bringing stolen property
into the state, three counts of
speeding, driving on the wrong
side of the road, three counts of
reckless driving, three counts of
fleeing or attempting to elude
a law enforcement officer for a
felony offense, criminal damage
to property, possession and use
of drug-related objects, failing to
obey a stop sign, driving under
the influence of drugs and two
counts of driving with a sus
pended or revoked license.

(CSR), Lee Street, where a
male had reportedly called
and threatened to “shoot
up the Barrow County
CSR office because he did
not have $1,000 that CSR
was requesting from him.”
•theft by taking at a
Windsor Drive residence,
where a man reported a
female took his 2001 Ford
Ranger truck without his
permission. The truck
was later located in Hall
County.
•theft by taking at an
East Northcrest Drive
residence, where a man
reported his daughter had
witnessed an individu
al “come walking up in
their driveway and steal
her bicycle and then ride
away.”
•theft by taking at a
Stovall Street residence,
where a man reported the
theft of a package that
contained some items he
had ordered from a web
