THURMOND SIGNS WITH GEORGIA HIGHLANDS COLLEGE
Winder-Barrow senior pitcher and first baseman Casey Thurmond
became the latest Bulldogg baseball player to sign a college scholar
ship, inking with Georgia Highlands College on Monday. Thurmond
became the fifth senior on the Winder-Barrow team to sign, joining Pat
DeMarco (Vanderbilt), Beau Hanna (Kennesaw), Trent Maddox (Augusta
University) and Will Hardigree (USC Upstate). Fellow senior Skylor
Murphy is committed to Young Harris. Thurmond projects as a pitcher
in college. “He’s done well for us,” Bulldoggs coach Brian Smith said. “I
feel like he’s just scratching the surface of what he’s going to be able to
do. I picture him gaining some more weight and gaining a few miles per
hour on his fastball and really blossoming as a college pitcher.”
