Virginia Archer
NICHOLSON - Virginia
Epps Archer, 84, passed
away Wednesday, March
28, 2018.
A lifelong resident of the
Sanford Community, Mrs.
Archer was the daughter of
the late Homer H. Epps and
Annie Vera Gordon Epps.
She retired from Southern
Bell (BellSouth) after over
42 years of employment.
She loved flowers, cook
ing and most importantly,
spending time with her
children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Archer was preceded
in death by her husband,
Jack Oliver Archer; one sis
ter, Carolyn Epps Hardy;
and one brother, Keith Gor
don Epps.
Survivors include her
children, Randy Archer
(Pat), Terresa Alexander
(Todd) and Brian Archer
(Lisa); two brothers, Wil
liam E. ‘‘Billy" Epps
(Alice) and Glenn F. Epps;
six grandchildren, Phillip
Archer (Amanda), Michelle
Archer, Dustin Alexander,
Courtney Alexander, Cam
eron Archer and Caleb
Archer; three great-grand
children, Aiden, Jack and
Made Archer; lifelong best
friend, Barbara Arnold; and
a host of other family and
friends.
Funeral services were
held Saturday, March 31,
at Gordon's Chapel United
Methodist Church with the
Revs. Billy Pittman and
Richard Lewis officiating.
Interment was in the church
cemetery. Pallbearers were
Dustin Alexander, James
"Bouncer" Williams, Char
lie Waters, Bobby Hardy,
Jimmy Epps, Andy Epps,
Greg Epps and Johnny Min-
ish.

Frances Cordray, 76, died
Saturday, March 31, 2018,
at her residence.
Mrs. Cordray was born
in Los Angeles, Calif., the
daughter of the late Logan
and Hazel Walker Lester.
Mrs. Cordray was of the
Catholic denomination and
was a retired LPN from
Northridge Medical Cen
ter. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Wil
liam Franklin Cordray; and
daughter, Denise Elaine
Farmer.
Survivors include her
daughters, Patti Sellers
(Kenny), Commerce, and
Teresa Anglin, Braselton;
son, Joey Powers, Nichol
son; a number of grand
children and great-grand
children; and sisters, Phyl
lis Gibson, St. Louis, Mo.
and Arlene (Pinky) Shaw,
Texas.

abeth Johnson Costa, 66,
passed away unexpectedly
Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Mary was born June 1,
1951, in Athens, Ga., the
daughter of the late James
Maryland Johnson Sr., and
Pauline Gabriel Johnson.
She was preceded in death
by her brother, James M.
Johnson Jr., and Virginia
Johnson Russell.
Survivors include a son,
Matthew Costa, Colbert;
daughter, Dina Costa Treff;
daughter-in-law, Lori Treff,
Bishop; and three grand
children, Jack, Robert,
and Garrett Maerz; sisters,
Rachel Coker (Randolph),
Comer, Ann Brooks (Ray),
Danielsville, Linda Hun-
nius (Jim Walls), Rich
mond, Va., and Carol Allen
(Bob), Colbert; brother-in-
law Huerlan Russell; and
many nieces and nephews.
Her former father-in-law,
Ralph Costa Sr., held a very
special place in her heart.
Mary was a strong woman
who loved her family more
than words can express.
She was always so giving
and willing to help others.
She was retired from a long
career of working in child
care centers in the Athens
area, most recently at Mir
acle Years of Learning in
Colbert, Ga. She also spent
several years at Oglethorpe
Avenue Elementary in Ath
ens. Mary resided in Sprin-
ghill Homes in Colbert,
where she enjoyed being
an active part of the com
munity and spending time
with her neighbors.
Visitation was held Fri
day, March 30, at Lord and
Stephens Funeral Home in
Danielsville. There will be
no burial at this time.

entered into rest Tuesday,
March 27, 2018.
Mrs. Edwards was born
in Jefferson,
the daughter
of the late
Jim and Ila
Gee Wright.
She was
a home
maker and
farmer and
a member
of Oconee
Baptist Church. Mrs.
Edwards was preceded in
death by a brother, J.W.
Wright; sister, Reba Mathis;
and her husband, James P.
Edwards.
Survivors include one
daughter, Gail Weeks and
her husband Lamar, Jeffer
son; one grandson, Justin
Weeks and his wife Susan,
Jefferson; and two great -
grandchildren, James and L
J Weeks of Jefferson.
Funeral services were
held Saturday, March 31,
from the Oconee Baptist
Church with the Rev. Gene
Carlan officiating. Burial
was in Jackson Memori
al Gardens in Commerce.

Hugh Morgan Sr.
Hugh Rainey Morgan,
Sr., 91, died Wednesday,
March 28, 2018.
A native of Fulton
County, Mr. Morgan was
the son of the late Wallace
and Louise Rainey Morgan.

He graduated in 1943 and
from 1943-1944 attended
Clemson as member of the
Persion Rifle Team. From
1944-1946
he served in
the United
States Navy
in the Pacific Theater. Fol
lowing discharge in 1946,
he joined the Marines and
traveled to Africa, Ger
many, France, and two
trips around the world. He
received certificates for
crossing the Equator. Mr.
Morgan returned back to
Winder in 1948 and met
the love of his life, JoAnne
Robinson, whom he mar
ried in 1952. Mr. Morgan
worked for Firestone, and
retired from Gainesville
Stone after 32 years. Mr.
Morgan was preceded in
death by his wife, JoAnne
Robinson Morgan.
Survivors include his
children, Hugh R. Morgan,
Jr. (Donna), Joe (Lavonda )
Morgan, Beth (Chris) Head,
Mandy (Chris) Smith; sis
ter, Helen Hall; ten grand
children; and 14 great
grandchildren.
Memorial services were
held Saturday, March 31, at
Smith Memory Chapel.

Dr. Stephen Orr
WINDER - Dr. Stephen
Winn Orr, 64, passed away
on Friday, March 30, 2018,
at Piedmont Healthcare in
Atlanta.
A native of Wayne Coun
ty, Mich., he was preceded
in death by his father. Win-
ford E. Orr.
Dr. Orr was a dedicated
family physician in Bar-
row County, where he prac
ticed medicine for over 32
years. He graduated from
Nova Southeastern Univer
sity College of Osteopathic
Medicine. Dr. Orr was also
an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his lov
ing wife of 24 years, Bon
nie Stein Orr, Winder; and
his mother, LaRue Lunsford
Orr, Winder; four children,
Asher, Sarah Beth, Evan,
and Jesslyn Orr; brother,
Mark (Becky) Orr; and
three nephews, Clint, Clay,
and Ben Orr.
The Funeral Service was
held on Tuesday, April 3, in
the Smith Memory Chapel.
Per his personal request, Dr.
Orr was cremated following
the service.

Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Sandford was born
in Atlanta, the daughter of
the late Woodson Lamartine
(W.L.) and Helene Garner
Williamson, Jr. Mrs. Sand
ford was retired from the
family accounting business
and was a member of Com
merce First United Method
ist Church. She was pre
ceded in death by her hus
band, Harold (Hal) George
Sandford.
Survivors include her
daughters, Joan Sahlgren,
Vienna, Va., and Helene
Gail Sandford, Long Beach,
Calif.; four grandchildren;
brothers, David Williamson
(Sue), Commerce, and Ran
dall Williamson (Kathy),
Fairfield Bay, Ark.
A memorial service will
be held Saturday, April 7, at
11 a.m. from the chapel of
Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the interment follow
ing in Grey Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home
on Saturday from 10 to 11
a.m. prior to the service.

Lisa Jane Ferrell
Lisa Jane Ferrell died sud
denly on March 19, 2018,
in Gainesville, Ga. Born
on February 27, 1956, she
grew up in Baton Rouge,
La., where she graduated
from LSU with a degree in
journalism.
A Celebration of Life was
held on Wednesday, April 4,
in the Chapel of Memorial
Park East Funeral Home.
Her career in the news
paper business took her to
south Louisiana, South Car
olina, Alabama, and finally
to Gainesville, Ga., where
she resided for the past 10
years. She was an account
executive at the Gwinnett
Daily Post for the past three
and a half years. Prior to
that, she served as adver
tising director at both The
Times in Gainesville and
the Forsyth County News.
In Louisiana, she worked
at the Houma Courier and
was heavily involved in the
community, serving as the
first female president of the
Rotary Club of Houma. She
was active in the Louisi
ana Press Association and
proudly represented her
alma mater by returning to
be a guest speaker for LSU
advertising students.
She made several mission
trips to China and Mexi
co with her mother, June,
and at home never missed
a chance to take in a stray
cat. She also loved bak
ing, collecting antiques and
working in her garden, and
would often bring fresh-cut
flowers for co-workers.
Known for her fashion
sense, Lisa was “the epito
me of a true Southern lady,"
according to friends. Her
quick wit and joke-telling
ability led one co-worker to
call her "the best comedian
1 ever worked with."
Lisa was preceded in
death by her parents, Thad
A. and June B. Ferrell, and
is survived by her brother,
David M. Ferrell and his
wife Bonnie, Baton Rouge.

ceded in death by her hus
band, Rickey Lynn Wilson.

Wehunt; brothers, Kenneth

Wehunt (Jennifer), Com

Diane Meeks Wehunt.

held Thursday, April 5, at
2 p.m. from the River of
Life Worship Center with
the Revs. Ronald Wilson
and Howard Rhodes offi
ciating with the interment
following at Howington
Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at the church
Wednesday night from 5 to
7 p.m.
