2018 All-Area Boys’ Basketball Team
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Dylan Orr, Sr.
Banks Co., forward
The 6-foot-7 Orr averaged 16 points, 12.4
rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game in helping
lead the Leopards to the Class AA Sweet
16. He was a GACA second-team all-state
selection and a first-team all-region selec
tion for 8-AA.
Derek Miller, Sr.
Apalachee, center
Miller averaged 13.1 points, 11.3
rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game for the
Wildcats. He was an all-region selection for
8-AAAAAA for two straight years.
Deron Collier, Sr.
Apalachee, guard
Collier averaged nine points, 4.7 rebounds
and 2.3 assists per game and was the Wild
cats' defensive stopper. He was an all-re
gion honorable mention for 8-AAAAAA.
Jamonte Wallace, So.
Apalachee, guard
Wallace posted averages of 11.8 points
and 3.1 assists per game and earned all-re
gion honorable mention recognition in
8-AAAAAA.
Brandon Bannis, Jr.
Apalachee, guard
Bannis averaged 11.8 points and 2.4
assists per contest in earning all-region hon
orable mention recognition for 8-AAAAAA.
Carl Cleveland, So.
Banks Co., guard-forward
Cleveland averaged 21 points, 7.3
rebounds and 3.3 assists for the Leopards
in a monster sophomore campaign. He also
hit 98 3-pointers. Cleveland was selected
to the GACA all-state team and was a first-
team all-region selection for 8-AA.
Gabe Martin, Sr.
Banks Co., guard
Martin averaged 12 points and four
rebounds per game and was an all-region
honorable mention for 8-AA.
Darius Bonds, Sr.
Banks Co., guard
Bonds averaged 9.4 points, 7.8 assists
and two steals per game. He was named an
all-region honorable mention for 8-AA.
Jamecus Cox, Sr.
Commerce, guard
Cox, who only averaged six points a
game last season, averaged 14.0 points,
4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this
year. He scored over 20 points in a game
eight times this season, including a pair of
27-point games.
Jalen Dorsey, Jr.
Commerce, forward
Dorsey was the Tigers' second leading
scorer with averages of 9.5 points and 5.1
rebounds per game. Dorsey, who enjoyed a
strong second half of the season, averaged
11 points and six rebounds per game in
region play.
Kyre Ware, Sr.
Commerce, forward
Ware, who was a steady force for the
Tigers, averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds
per game. His highlights included a 24-point
game.
Tay Howard, Jr.
East Jackson, forward
Howard averaged 13.2 points per game,
along with 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists. 1.9
steals and 1.1 blocks. He shot 54 percent
from the floor. Howard was an all-region
selection for 8-AAA.
Kobe Haley, Sr.
East Jackson, guard
Haley posted averages of 10.1 points,
4.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.9 steals per
game. He shot 48 percent from the floor
and 36 percent from behind the arc. Haley
served as a team captain for the Eagles and
was an all-region honorable mention for
Begion 8-AAA.
Xavier Clark, Sr.
East Jackson, guard
Clark finished the season with averages
of 13.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and
2.0 steals per game. Clark shot 46 percent
from the floor and 37 percent from the
3-point line. He served as a team captain
and was an all-region selection for 8-AAA.
Kalib Clinton, Fr.
Jackson Co., forward
Clinton broke onto the scene in 8-AAA as
a freshman averaging a double-double this
season with 16 points and 10 boards per
game. He shot 60 percent from the floor and
was named to the 8-AAA all-region team.
Cameron Shaw, Jr.
Jackson Co., guard
The mid-season transfer played in 11
games for Jackson County but averaged
12.5 points per contest. Shaw was select
ed as an all-region honorable mention for
8-AAA.
Jasper Gibson, So.
Jefferson, guard
Gibson averaged 19.5 points, 3.6 points,
2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game. His
highlights included a 41-point performance
against Stephens County. Gibson was an
all-region selection for 8-AAAA and an all-
state selection for Class AAAA.
Jacob Radaker, So.
Jefferson, post
Radaker averaged 12.5 points per game
along with 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and
1.7 steals. He was an all-region selection
for 8-AAAA.
Donsha Gaither, So.
Jefferson, guard
Gaither averaged 9.3 points, 4.2 rebounds,
1.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
Jamal Meadows, Sr.
Jefferson, guard
Meadows was the Dragons' defensive
specialist, averaging 2.3 steals per contest.
He also averaged 6.4 points, 3.6 rebounds
and 2.6 assists.
Jackson Bailey, Sr.
Madison Co., forward
Bailey led the Bed Baiders this season
with averages of 11.3 points, 10.2 rebounds
and 2.0 blocks per game. He was named the
team's MVP and was a two-time all-region
selection for 8-AAAA. Bailey helped lead
Madison County to back-to-back state tour
nament berths for the first time in 30 years.
Traveon Latimore, Jr.
Madison Co., forward
Latimore averaged 10.2 points, 8.9
rebounds and two steals per game. He was
a co-recipient of the team's Most Improved
Award and was an all-region honorable
mention for 8-AAAA.
Adam Metts, So.
Madison Co., guard
Metts averaged 8.8 points and 4.4 boards.
He was a co-recipient of the team's Most
Improved Award and was an all-region hon
orable mention for 8-AAAA.
Lamonta Mack, Sr.
Winder-Barrow, forward
Mack, a three-year starter for the Bull-
doggs, averaged 11.7 points and 7.8
rebounds per game. He was an all-region
honorable mention for 8-AAAAAA.
CO-COACHES OF THE YEAR
Kevin Morris, Jefferson
Morris improved the Dragons from four
wins last season to 18 victories this sea
son in his first year on the job. The former
Apalachee coach also guided Jefferson to
its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2014.
David Akin, East Jackson
Akin's Eagles posted a 14-game improve
ment in the win column (going 16-13) and
reached the first round of the Class AAA
state tournament in the coach's second year
with the program .
