host a “Know Your Rights” sym
posium on Saturday, April 21,

The community forum will

Following the forum, a mid-day

The Homeland Boys and Clarke Kesler and Friends will be performing

Rural Women in Action
to host fifth annual
conference this weekend
at Winder church
Rural Women in Action will host
its fifth annual conference Saturday,
April 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
White Oak Spring Missionary Bap
tist Church. Lunch will be provided
by Diane Kinney.
The conference will feature a
“powerful message of hope and
empowerment,” titled “Under Con
struction,” leaders stated.
The conference will focus on
boys and young men in communi
ties by providing interactive activi
ties, workshops, tools and resources
along with a panel of motivational
guest speakers who are “ready to
educate, equip and empower them,”
leaders said.
The panel includes special guest
speakers William Francis of the
AFIA Center (Atlanta Faith in
Action), Sandy Rogers of the self-ti
tled Sandy Rogers BlogTalkRadio
station and Jamie Dove, Captain

Fire and Detention Officer in Frank
lin County.
The panel will also include local
community leaders Sande Bai-
ley-Gwinn with Foundations for
Living and Sam Hutchins from the
Hope 4 Xavier Foundation.
RWIA founder and visionary
Tammy Kinney’s favorite quote is
from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and
states, “Our lives begin to end the
day we become silent on things that
Matter.”
When asked, RWIA executive
treasurer Alicia Baimer said she felt
that the rapper Common said it best
— “Not everyone is the same. You
can’t label a person just because of
what they do or what they’ve done.”
Come Alive Ministries to host
annual banquet on Saturday
Come Alive Ministries of Barrow
County, a non-profit, pregnancy care
center, will hold its 27th annual "Cele
brate Life” Banquet on Saturday, April
14, at 6:30 p.m.
The banquet will be held at the Winder
Community Center, 113 East Athens St.
The keynote speaker will be Annette
Herndon of Annette Herndon Ministries.
Dinner will be catered by The Master’s
Table and there will be a musical perfor
mance from Sisters by Grace.

The group has also announced its Four
Quarters for Life quilt fundraiser. Peo
