Sally Beggs
DAHLONEGA, GA Sally
Bess Spence Beggs, 62, passed
away March 31, 2018, following a
brief illness.
Sally was born October 11,
1955, in Florence, S.C., to Joanne
Chick Swicegood and the late
Thomas M. Spence. She attended
Thornwell High School in Clinton,
S.C. Sally later worked in banking,
marketing, and real estate. She also
established several businesses in
the Grand Cayman Islands. Before
moving to Dahlonega, Sally was
a valued officer of the Braselton
Downtown Development Authority.
Survivors in addition to her
mother, include a sister, Gina
Brown; sister and brother-in-law,
Rebecca and Darrell Garner; neph
ews, Ryan F. Thomason, James
Garner, Aaron Garner and Ethan
Garner; great-nephew, Ryan Rob
ert Thomason; and many dear
friends.
She led an active lifestyle of
tennis, golf, swimming, water ski
ing, snow skiing, scuba diving,
and deep-sea fishing. Sally enjoyed
island and coastal living, city liv
ing, and lastly, her mountain home.
She never met a stranger, finding
beauty in everyone she met and
was a friend and confidant to many.
Sally was a devoted daughter, sister,
and aunt to her nephews.
Memorial services for Sally will
be held Friday, April 27, at 6 p.m.,
at Hope Crossings Church in Jef
ferson, Ga., for family and friends.

COMMERCE - Glenda Estelle
Logan Bennett, 75, died Thursday,
April 5, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Bennett was born in
Homer, the daughter of the late
Gordon (Buck) and Mary Edith
Jones Logan. Mrs. Bennett was
a member of Mt. Olive Baptist
Church and was a retired substitute
teacher for Banks County School
System. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Dewey Harrison
Bennett; and daughter, Debra Kay
Bennett.
Survivors include her daughter,
Gina Bennett Polkinghorn (Danny),
Commerce; beloved dog, Bristol;
sisters, Linda Rice, Maysville, and
Cinda Sellers (Jimmy), Demorest;
nephew, Todd Hubbard (Ginger);
great-nephews and niece, Tyler,
Logan, and Faith.
Funeral services were held Sun
day, April 8, from Mt. Olive Baptist
Church with the Rev. Blake Carter
officiating. Interment was in the
church cemetery.

James Henry
Crawford, Jr.
BRASELTON - Jim Crawford,
went to be with the Lord on April 7,
2018, at the age
of 68, following
a yearlong can
cer journey.
Jim will
be forever
remembered as
a devoted hus
band and father
by his wife
and best friend
of 43 years,
Kathey, and his
two sons, Eric (Cindy), and Ryan
(Jessica). He was an awesome “Pa”
to three grandchildren, Charlie,
Clark, and Quinn Crawford. He
will also be fondly remembered by
his sister, Betty (Don), and many
other extended family members and
dear friends. He was preceded in
death by his father, James Henry
Crawford; his mother, Mattie Craw
ford; and his older brother, Charles
Crawford.
Jim would tell you that his three
greatest accomplishments in life
were accepting Jesus Christ as his
Savior and Lord, marrying the love
of his life, Kathey, and being the
father of two wonderful sons, Eric
and Ryan. He loved people and
never met a stranger. He had a
servant heart and a generous spirit.
Many hearts have been touched
by his courageous cancer journey
this past year. He never wavered
in his faith, positive attitude, or
determination.
Jim was originally from High
lands, N.C. He earned a Bachelor
of Science degree at Mars Hill Col
lege, in Mars Hill, N.C. and com
pleted a Master of Arts degree at the
University of Alabama. He was first
employed as a teacher and coach in
Charlotte, N.C. and later came to
Georgia as headmaster of George
Walton Academy. He entered the
business world in 1984 as a Resi
dential Marketing Representative
at Walton EMC in Monroe, Ga.
and then moved to Jackson EMC
in Jefferson, Ga. as a Commercial
and Industrial Marketing Repre
sentative. He became Director of
Corporate Affairs for Jackson EMC
in 1988 and from 1992 until his
retirement in 2016 served as Vice
President of Customer and District
Services.
Jim was actively involved in his
church and community. He was a
devoted follower of Jesus Christ
and served as a Deacon, Treasurer,
Choir Member, and Kids Hope
mentor at North Metro Baptist
Church. Because of his leadership
and planning abilities, he served
on the Finance Team, the Building
Committee, and the Strategic Plan
ning Committee. He was involved
in Rotary International, serving as
a past president of the South Gwin
nett Rotary Club, and as Assistant
Governor for District 6910. He
established the RYLA (Modified
Outward Bound) Program for ris
ing high school juniors and facili
tated that program for five years. He
was a graduate of the first Leader
ship Gwinnett Class. For over 40
years, Jim was a faithful Red Cross
blood donor. Jim’s hobbies includ
ed landscaping, traveling, reading,
and spending time with his family.
Some of Jim’s many memorable
experiences in recent years includ
ed skydiving in Hawaii in 2014, his
baptism in the Jordan River in 2014,
and singing in a Christmas Concert
at Carnegie Hall in 2016.
A celebration of Jim’s life will
be held on Thursday, April 12, at 4
p.m. at North Metro Baptist Church,
1026 Old Peachtree Road NE, Law-
renceville, GA with Dr. Frank Cox
officiating. The remains will be
placed in state at the church at 3
p.m. Family visitation will be held
on Wednesday, April 11, from 4 to
8 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home,
4400 South Lee Street, Buford, GA.
A graveside service will be held
on Friday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at
Highlands Memorial Park, Memo
rial Park Drive, Highlands, NC.

Jean
Pressley Haggard
WARNER ROBINS On the
morning of Friday, April 6, 2018,
Jean Haggard went to be with her
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in
heaven. She was 72 years old.
Jean was born in Brockton, Ga.
on November 9, 1945, and was
raised in Jefferson and Commerce,
Ga. She was an alumnus of Com
merce High
School where
she show
cased her
athleticism
in playing
basketball
and broke
the record
for rebounds.
Jean even
broke her
own record.
In 1962, she
graduated from high school, and in
that same year, married Raymond
Haggard, the love of her life.
Early in their marriage, Jean
dedicated herself to being a won
derful homemaker and was darn
good at it. She began her career
at Kelly Services Temp Agency
where she was their number one
employee. There, she excelled and
developed her skills in typing and
stenography. Jean then worked for
many years as a secretary at Robins
Air Force Base where she eventu
ally retired as a Systems Analyst.
Jean had a creative personal
ity, and starting when her sons
were young, she began serving as
a Boy Scout Leader and enjoyed
it for many years. Jean was also
a longtime member of First Pres
byterian in Warner Robins. She
truly loved and lived her life by
example always putting faith and
family first.
She was preceded in death by her
father, James Howard Pressley; her
mother, Jewel Jackson Ivy; and her
stepfather, John Harold Ivy.
Jean’s memory will forever be
treasured by her loving husband,
William Raymond Haggard of War

Haggard and Scott Thomas Hag
gard, both of Valdosta, and Paige
Haggard of Columbia, S.C.; and

Helen Arlene Kent, 82, passed
away April 4, 2018.
A native of Haralson County,
Mrs. Kent was the daughter of the
late Henry Arlen and Docia Madi-
elee Wade Davenport. She was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Ira Howard Kent; and a grandson,
Scott Bruce. Mrs. Kent was retired
from UGA Food Service Depart
ment. Mrs. Kent was a sweet and
beautiful ray of sunlight to everyone
she came in contact with. She loved
all her family dearly and loved the
spring time of year so she could put
out her hummingbird feeders and
plant flowers. Mrs. Kent was the
best Mama and Nana anyone could
ever ask for.

Mr. Lewis was born in Gaines

Sallie Mae Swafford Lewis. Mr.
Lewis was a truck driver and of the
Holiness denomination. He was

Katherine “Kat” Saul, 90, passed
away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at
Dominion Senior Living.
She was born November 5,
1927, in Abingdon, Va., the daugh
ter of the late Joseph Lester and
Julia Lewis
Abel. Kat
was deeply
devoted to
the Lord and
to her family.
She loved
needlepoint
and quilt
ing and had
made many
quilts for her
grandchildren
and great
grandchil
dren. She was an amazing hostess
and welcomed all into her home.
Kat worked as a cosmetologist in
her home shop and loved to make
people beautiful. She was an avid
reader.
Kat was an active member of
Virginia Avenue Baptist Church and
had previously served at First Bap
tist Church of Winder, Ga. Her pas
sion was fulfilling the great com
mission through the ministries of the
local church where she was actively
involved as the Baptist Women’s
Director and Women’s Missionary
Union Director. She also served
the church as an adult choir mem
ber, children’s choir leader, library
staff member, nursery coordinator,
Sunday School teacher, kitchen
staff, and numerous committees.
She served the Appalachee Baptist
Association for more than 20 years
as Baptist Women’s Director and
Associational WMU Director. As
a WMU leader, she attended many
training conferences at Ridgecrest
Conference Center near Asheville,
N.C., and Glorieta Conference Cen
ter in Glorieta, N.M. In honor of
Kat’s many, many years of mis
sions leadership in the Appalachee
Baptist Association WMU, a brick
for the pathway in the new Prayer
Garden at Pinnacle Retreat Center
in Clayton, Ga., was given by those
who worked alongside her through
her many years of service.
She was preceded in death by her
siblings, Martha Ketron and hus
band Richard, Virginia Hunter and
husband Clarence, Louise Schwartz
and husband John, Lillian Jones and
husband Walter, Joseph “June” Abel
and wife Virginia, Wallace Abel,
Grace Odum and husband Arthur,
Phyllis Abel, Jack Abel, and Wayne
Abel; brother-in-law, John Gibson;
and grandson-in-law, Bo Miller.
Survivors include her husband of
69 years, Charles “Pat” Saul, Bris
tol, Tenn.; daughters, Linda Price,
Bristol, Tenn., Barbara Boyd and
husband Damon, Abingdon, Va.;
five grandchildren, Shannon Miller,

John Schulte
HOSCHTON - John F. Schulte,
84, passed from life on Sunday,
March 18, 2018.
Mr. Schulte was a graduate of
Boys Catho
lic High
School and
Rider Uni
versity in
Trenton, N.J.,
where he was
nominated
and accept
ed into the
“Who’s Who
of American
Colleges and
U niversi -
ties” in 1957. He married Kay
Shull in 1961. He worked for the
US Forest Service for 30 years,
being transferred to different loca
tions within the USA, and then to
Atlanta in 1970, to the Regional
office. He remained there until he
retired. During the 1970s, he was
involved in the formation of the Lil-
burn Gwinnett Basketball League
(GBL) and coached boys 9-13 in
basketball for several years. He
later formed the Berkmar Basket
ball Booster Club. After retirement,
John gave many hours of volunteer
service to Prince of Peace Catholic
Church, where he was a member, as
well as the City of Hoschton as City
Councilman and then in organizing
and continual involvement in the
Hoschton Business Alliance. He
also represented the HBA in the
Jackson County Tourism Council.
John will be remembered for his
commitment to his family, his faith,
service to others. His hobbies were
following the grandchildren’s sport
ing events and his volunteer work.
Survivors include his daughter,
Deb Schulte and husband Dale;
sons, John A. Schulte and wife
Joanna, and Stephen Schulte and
wife Amne; grandchildren, Mini
Schulte, Meredith Schulte, Jay
Schulte and Eric Schulte. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Kay
Schulte.
A Funeral Mass Memorial Ser
vice was held Thursday, March 22,
at Prince of Peace Catholic Church
in Flowery Branch, Ga. with a
reception immediately following.

ett Williamson, 65, passed away
Tuesday, April 3, 2018, in the Bris
tol Regional Medical Center, Bris
tol, Tenn.
He was born in Winder, Ga.
on May 12, 1952, the son of the
late Winford Everett Williamson
and Velma Jean Martin Williamson.
Mr. Williamson was preceded in
death by two sisters, Marsha Baxter
Reeves and Lynda Standridge; and
one brother, Timothy Williamson.
He was a loving husband, father
and grandfather and enjoyed fishing
and woodworking.
Survivors include his loving wife
of 24 years, Vestia Cromer William
son; one daughter, Amanda Young
Ibrahim and husband, Ashraf; one
stepson, Richard Cromer and wife,
Victoria; four grandsons, Richard
Cromer, Jr., Triston Cromer and
wife, Sarah, Jacob Ibrahim and
Jonah Ibrahim; and several nieces
and nephews.

will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sat
urday, April 14, at Pleasant Hill

he loved dearly
from Miami, Fla. He was preceded
in death by his mother, Pomposa
Noemi Alvarez and sister, Lizette
M. (Lisa) Woerner.
Jose attended Riverside Mili
tary Academy in Gainesville, Ga.
and continued his studies at Dan
iel Webster University in Nashua,
N.H., graduating with a Bachelor of
Science. Jose worked as a Network
Administrator for ASA Tire System
/ Friedman USA, Inc. for 33 years.
He loved his work and enjoyed
helping others.
He married his wife Deborah in
Savannah in 1985. In 1990, Jose,
Deborah, Brandi and Christina (4
weeks old) moved to New Hamp
shire. In February 2011, they pur
chased a home in the Gates of
Braselton, Hoschton, Ga.
Jose will be remembered as a
loving and devoted husband, father,
grandfather, son, brother and cous
in.
Jose fought a year long battle
against cancer. He was surrounded
by his family when he traveled to
Heaven. Jose will meet our Lord
and speak again, breathe again and
see again, and have a feast with
him. He will celebrate and begin
his eternal life.
Jose leaves an indelible mark
on our lives and will be forever in
our hearts.
The family will have a private
celebration of his life.

‘Bobby’Nelson III
AUBURN - Robert “Bobby”
Calvin Nelson III, 24, passed away
on Friday, April 6, 2018.
A native of Barrow County, he
was the son of Robert Calvin Nel
son, Jr. of Bethlehem and Patricia
Nix Wilkins of Madison. Mr. Nel
son was a 2011 graduate of Appa
lachee High School and attended
Hebron Baptist Church. He was an
avid gamer and had a special bond
with his beloved dog, Marley, and
several bearded dragons. He will be
best remembered as a loving son,
husband, father, uncle, and a friend
to many.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in
death by his grandparents, Joe and
Delia Nix; step-grandmother, Lil
lian Wilkins; and uncle, Joey Nix.
Survivors in addition to his
parents include his loving wife
of one and a half years, Kristin
King Nelson, Auburn; daughters,
Cheyenne and Cora Nelson; sisters,
Amanda (Carl) Taves, Temple, and
Jessica Nelson, Monroe; grandpar
ents, Catherine and Calvin Nelson,
Doraville; step-father, Tim Wilkins,
Madison; step-sisters, Marissa
and Savannah Wilkins, Monroe;
nieces, Carlie and Merida Taves;
and numerous aunts, uncles, and
cousins.
The Funeral Service to honor
and celebrate the life of Mr. Robert
“Bobby” Calvin Nelson III was
held Tuesday, April 10, at Carter
Hill Christian Church in Winder
with Pastor Tim Burt officiating.
Burial was at Barrow Memorial
Gardens.
Donations may be made to his
children.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder,
was entrusted with the arrange
ments.

Teddy Ray Weaver, 65, husband
of Linda Williams Weaver, died
Saturday, April 7, 2018.
Born in Athens, he was the son
of the late
Oran Free
man Weaver
and Mary Lou
Carter Weaver
and brother to
the late Billy
Ray Carter
and Oren Ray
Weaver. Ted
had work for
the Oglethorpe
County High
School as a custodian and at vari
ous rock quarries. He was an avid
outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting
and fishing.
Survivors in addition to his wife
Linda, include his daughter, Melis
sa (Jeremy) Payne; brothers, Wil
liam (Donna) Weaver and Mitchel
Weaver; sister, Peggy Franklin; and
a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, April 11, at Lord &
Stephens East Chapel with the Rev.
Calvin Weaver officiating. Burial
was at Collier Baptist Church Cem
etery.
