10th annual STEMI summit
Barrow County Emergency Services
often receives recognition for its treat
ment and response to STEMI patients.
“When a patient is having this type
of cardiac issue, treatment and rapid
transport can truly make the difference
between life and death,” said EMS pffi-
cer Capt. Heath Williams in a news
release.
“We are always striving to be one of
the best in the industry and a lot of our
success is because of the people that
work with us.”
In late March the department had
numerous members attend the 10th
annual STEMI summit at Chateau Elan,
hosted by Northeast Georgia Regional
STEMI System.
The event hosted keynote speakers
and nationally-known physicians and
looked at the most current treatment
protocols. Attendees had the chance to
not only learn from these speakers, but
network with other area providers to
look at what is working best.
“Barrow County Emergency Services
consistently exceeds the national stan
dards on STEMI treatments,” Williams
said. “It is through events like this and
the great personnel we have here that
attend these events that we are able
to provide this quality of care for our
patients. I am proud of the men and
women of Barrow County Emergency
Services and the dedication and level of
care they provide."
CAP offers cadet scholarships
Did you know that there are schol
arships available to cadets through the
Civil Air Patrol?
Each spring, the Civil Air Patrol
provides academic and flight schol
arships to select, deserving cadets,
leaders state.
The scholarship portfolio is
announced each fall, and combined
with college partners, cadets are eligi
ble for over $350,000 in awards. Also,
due to a donation from Continental
Motors Group, CAP is offering a
$12,000 non-residential private pilot
scholarship.
The following criteria apply to all
cadet scholarships. Additional crite
ria will be noted within the specifics
of an individual scholarship descrip
tions.
1. Be a current CAP cadet.
2. Have earned the Billy Mitch
ell Award (except for the Col Mary
Feik Flight Scholarship, which only
requires the Wright Brothers).
3. Be enrolled in a full-time (as
determined by the school) course of
study during the academic year for
which the scholarship is awarded.
4. Possess and maintain an academ
ic and discipline standard acceptable
to the school you attend.

scholarship for which you are apply
ing. For example, if you received
a Cadet Academic Scholarship last

the USAA Academic scholarship or
another named academic scholarship,
or any flight scholarship, but you may
not apply for the Cadet Academic
Scholarship again.
