Olivia Morgan won first place in the
girls high jump and long jump, and
Adam Gano finished second in overall
points to lead the Bethlehem Christian
Academy track and field teams at the
GISA Region 1-AAA meet in Jonesboro
on April 18.
In all, 12 BCA athletes qualified for
this week’s state meet, which will be
held Thursday through Saturday at Hugh
Mills Stadium in Albany.
Morgan, who finished second in the
state in the high jump last year, contin
ued to improve on her height, jumping 5
feet, 2 inches.
She jumped 14 feet, 10.25 inches
in the long jump and finished as the
fourth-leading female scorer overall.
Gano qualified for state in four events,
finishing second in the 100-meter dash
(11.73 seconds), long jump (19 feet, 1
inch) and triple jump (38 feet, 1.75 inch
es). He also ran a leg on the 4xl00-me-
ter relay team that finished second and
also included Tanner Schwebel, Eliel
St. Louis and Makayal Cooper. (46.87
seconds).
Clayton Hopkins won first in the shot
put (42 feet, 2 inches), while Schwebel
won the discus (104 feet, 10 inches).
Other girls qualifiers included Laura
Clifford (third 100-meter and 300-meter
hurdles), Kaleigh Roseland (third in the
100-meter dash) and Carson McKee
(fourth in the 3,200-meter run).
On the boys side, Garrett Nolan fin
ished third in the high jump and fourth
in the 110-meter hurdles, St. Louis took
second in the high jump, and Lawsom
Maxwell finished second in the shot put
and fourth in the discus.
The BCA boys finished second overall
out of seven teams with 98 points behind
Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg (217). The
Lady Knights finished fifth of eight
teams with 69 points, behind Trini
ty (163), Atlanta Girls School (141),
Dominion Christian (93) and The Heri
tage School (74).
First-year BCA coach Robert Strong
said he has been pleased with how his
teams have performed this year.
“Depth seems to be our biggest issue,
but out of about 22 kids, over half have
qualified for state,” Strong said. "We’re
getting PRs every week, and the good
thing is the majority of the kids are
returning next year. We only lose two or
three and only one who’s going to state.
“I’m just proud of how everyone has
done.”

BCA needs more wins to get in playoffs

With the regular season drawing
to a close, the Bethlehem Christian
Academy baseball team still has
some work to do.
The Diamond Knights are looking
to secure a berth for the upcom
ing GISA Class AAA state play
offs. They were scheduled to host
Loganville Christian Academy in
Region 1-AAA action Tuesday but
that game was pushed back until
Wednesday (today) at 4 p.m.
Coach Matt Nicks said earlier this
week his team is currently “on the
outside looking in.”
“If we beat LCA we could end up
being the No. 3 seed,” Nicks said.
“If we win that game we are in.
There are still some things that will
determine the seeding.”
At this point, the BCA coach said
he is just concentrating on his team
securing a win Wednesday.
“That’s all I am worried about,”
Nicks said. “We’ll let the seeding
figure itself out.”
Leading into the game with rival
LCA, the Knights defeated The Her
itage School 12-4 last Friday.
Nicks saw his team score two
in the first, two in the second and
seven more runs in the third to break
open the contest.
BCA pounded out 16 hits. Andrew
Klein was 3-for-4 with a double and
three RBI while Patrick Wallace was
3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Ethan Guthas added a 3-for-4 per
formance with a double and RBI.
Jacob Adams and Ryan Whitlow
both had two hits.
Wallace earned the win pitching
five innings in relief of Dylan Park
er.
The previous day saw BCA fall to
Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg, 21-3
in three innings.
Wallace had a two-run homer
in the bottom of the first for the
Knights and Russell Kiser had a
double.
BCA is now 10-10-1 overall and
3-5 in region play.
Following today’s game the
Knights will close out the regular
season Friday with another region
game at Trinity Christian.
BCA continued from IB
game, and that wasn’t going to hap
pen. Bourbeau secured the final out
to end the game four innings early
with BCA winning 18-1.
Goddard and Still were both a per
fect 3-for-3 at the plate with three
runs each. Goddard drove in three
runs, while Still drove in one.
Owen also had three RBIs, but
Baker led the Knights with 5 RBIs
while going 2-for-2 with a walk and
a homerun.
Owen was the only perfect batter
in game two, going 3-for-3 with
three runs and three RBIs. Goddard
led the Knights with four RBIs.
She and Baker both had seven RBIs
between both games. Bourbeau
pitched a total of six innings Thurs
day. She struck out four batters, only
walked two, and allowed just seven
hits and two runs.
“All the girls came to play today,”
Clarke said.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve
had softball, they don’t want the
season to end just yet. These girls,
being so young, a lot of them don’t
even know statistics. They don’t
care what their batting average is;
all they care about is a ‘W’ and
that’s just their mentality.
“That’s just how they’ve been
doing it all year.”
