Donald Duck memorabilia, other items stolen from car at Publix
The following incidents
were recently reported to
the Winder Police Depart
ment:
•criminal damage to
property, theft by taking
and entering an automo
bile or other motor vehicle
with the intent to commit
a theft or other felony at
Publix - Winder Corners,
Monroe Highway, where
a man reported the driv
er’s side window on his
2003 Buick LeSabre was
smashed in. He said an
insurance card, car title,
vehicle registration, mis
cellaneous CDs, a GPS
and Donald Duck memo
rabilia were missing from
inside the vehicle.
•simple assault at a
Wood Avenue residence,
where suspicious activity
was reported. A woman
said a man knocked on
her door and asked to
see someone. The com
plainant said she was
confused and questioned
him and at this time he
got frustrated, returned to
a Honda sedan, retrieved
a handgun and began
moving towards the door
with the gun. She said
she returned inside her
residence and closed the
door.

Graham Street residence,
where a woman report
ed $920 in cash missing
from her residence after
leaving two 16-year-olds
to babysit her five chil
dren.

officers on East Athens
Street, where a traf
fic stop was conducted
on the driver of a 2002
Honda Accord.

Storaway on West Ath
ens Street, where a man
reported a hole had been
drilled in the lock on his
rented storage unit. He
said the hole is where the
keyhole used to be, the
lock is broken, and he
was not able to enter the
unit. He said he didn’t
believe the person who
drilled the hole was able
to enter the unit either.
•disorderly conduct
at the Barrow County
Department of Family
and Children Services,
Lee Street, where a
juvenile was reportedly
“pacing back and forth
and screaming profane
words.”
•damage to property
in a parking lot on West
Athens Street, where the
driver of a Winder Police
Department 2014 Chev
rolet Tahoe patrol vehicle
struck the trailer hitch on
a parked 2005 Ford F-350
truck.
•driving under the
influence (DUI) of alco
hol and failure to report
an accident with inju
ry, death or damage at
KFC, West Athens Street,
where the driver of a 2012
Dodge Ram 3500 truck
had struck the building at
the drive-thru.
•DUI - drugs, driv
ing with a suspended or
revoked license, improp
er lane change/failure to
maintain lane and will
ful obstruction of law
enforcement officers on
Grier Road, where a traf
fic stop was initiated on
the driver of a 1999 Ford
Mustang.
•outstanding arrest war
rant at Phillips 66, North
Broad Street, where a
suspicious person was
reported "rummaging
through the trash can/ash
tray” at the closed busi
ness.
•DUI - alcohol, improp
er lane change/failure to
maintain lane and texting
while driving on East
Wright Street, where it
was reported a 2008 Toy
ota Yaris had “possibly
overturned" and the driv
er had fled the scene. It
was determined a female
on the scene was actu
ally the one driving the
wrecked vehicle.
•theft by taking at a Lily
Drive residence, where a
woman reported someone
came onto her property
and stole a $5,000 drill
hammer out of the bed of
a 2004 Ford F-150 truck.
•burglary at a Jefferson
Highway business, where
someone had reportedly
broken a glass panel in
the front door, entered the
store, jumped onto the
counter knocking items
over and onto the floor.
The cash registers were
opened and the credit card
machine was knocked
upside down. No money
was taken because the
registers had been emp
tied by the owner before
closing. Four packs of
cigarettes had reportedly
been taken by a male who
had been observed on
video surveillance break
ing into the store using
a log to break the front
glass door.

a Springdale Drive res
idence, where a man
reported his friend called
him and said that anoth
er man had made threats
against the complainant.
•domestic dispute at
a Missi Lane residence,
between a woman and her
husband
•possession of meth-
amphetamine and posses
sion and use of drug-re
lated objects at Jet Mar
ket, South Broad Street,
where a traffic stop was
initiated on the driver of
a 1989 Nissan Pathfinder.
•public drunkenness at
the Jameson Inn, Stafford
Street, where a suspicious
female was “yelling in
the middle of the parking
lot.” She told the respond
ing officer, as she was
sitting on top of a vehicle
she did not own, she was
“talking to God.”
•criminal damage
to property at a Grove
Street residence, where
a man reported someone
had “keyed the outside
paint surface" on his 2010
Dodge Charger and 2006
Nissan Titan truck.
•lost/found property at
AMC Bethlehem Twelve,
Exchange Boulevard,
Bethlehem, where a man
reported losing his wallet.
•hit and run; duty of the
driver to stop at or return
to the scene of an acci
dent on East May Street,
where the driver of a 2004
Acura RSX reported his
vehicle was rear-ended
by the driver of a Honda
Accord that left the scene.
•DUI - alcohol, expired
or no driver’s license, con
sumption/open container
of an alcoholic beverage
in the passenger area of a
vehicle, hit and run; duty
of the driver to stop at
or return to the scene of
an accident and improp
er lane change/failure to
maintain lane on West
Candler Street, where the
driver of a 2008 Nissan
Frontier truck had jumped
the curb and struck a tree
with his vehicle.
•terroristic threats at a
Bush Chapel Drive res
idence, where a man
reported he had been
threatened via social
media.
•dispute between
neighbors on Monticello
Court. A woman stated
one of her neighbors had
been driving erratically
through the area and she
was concerned with the
safety of the children that
play in the area.

rant on West May Street,
where a traffic stop was
conducted on the driver of
a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500
truck with no headlights
on after dark.
•theft by taking at East
Coast Customs Automo
tive, East May Street,
where a woman report
ed wiper blades missing
from the trunk of her 2015
Nissan Altima after it had
been left at this business
to get the windows tinted.
•hit and run; duty of
the driver to stop at or
return to the scene of an
accident on North Broad
Street, where a Jefferson
woman, driving a 2015
Honda Accord, reported
she rear-ended a couple
in a Honda CRV. She said
the couple in the Honda
CRV left the scene.

idence, where a domes
tic dispute was reported
between a woman and her
father.
•battery at Wendy’s,
East May Street, where
a woman reported she
had been assaulted by a
co-worker’s boyfriend.
The complainant was

Man’s mail fraudulently forwarded to Massachusetts
The Barrow County Sheriff’s
Office recently responded to the
following incidents:
•identity theft fraud when using/
possessing identifying informa
tion concerning a person at a
Logan Court, Statham, residence,
where a man reported some
one had fraudulently applied to
have all his mail forwarded to an
address in Sutton, Mass. He said
he, nor his wife, knew anyone in
Sutton, Mass. He also reported
three fraudulent charges on his
bank card that were made to the
United States Postal Service.
•operating an unregistered vehi
cle/new resident has 30 days to
register a vehicle on Rockwell
Church Road NW at Custom
Lane, Winder, where a 2013 Toy
ota Tundra truck was found aban
doned.
•missing person at a Russell
Cemetery Road, Winder, resi
dence, where a man reported his
brother missing for two days.
•entering an automobile or other
motor vehicle with the intent to
commit a theft or other felony
and criminal trespass at a Patrick
Industrial Dr., Winder, business.
A man reported someone came
onto his business property and
damaged his 2003 Ford Econoline
work van. He said nothing was
missing, but there was damage
around the driver’s side door and
around the ignition switch.
•terroristic threats at Smart
Express, Duncan Lane, Auburn,
where a dispute was reported
between an employee and the
business manager.
•lost/found property at Insur
ance Auto Auction, Atlanta High
way SE, Winder, where a pistol
was found in a 2013 BMW that
had been towed.
•willful obstruction of law
enforcement officers at a Peters
Street, Statham, residence, where
a dispute was reported. A woman
reported a man came to her house
and pushed her and then left,
headed back toward his residence
armed with a knife.
•criminal trespass - Family
Violence Act (FVA) and simple
battery - FVA at an Edgewater
Lane, Hoschton, residence, where
a 9-1-1 hang-up was reported. A
juvenile stated his father came
to the residence and “busted out
windows on a camper in the back
yard.” A woman said her ex-hus
band, the juvenile’s father, took a
rake and broke several windows
on her camper.
Weekend house fire in Auburn ruled accidental
A fire that inflicted
"moderate” damage to a
home in Auburn on Sun
day evening has been
ruled accidental.
According to a Barrow
County Emergency Ser
vices news release, short
ly after 7 p.m. Sunday,
firefighters received a
report of a house fire in
the 100 block of John’s
Bluff. Apparatus and per
sonnel from Stations 1,
4, 5, and 7 responded.
The first arriving units
reported heavy fire com
ing from the rear of the
two-story home. There
was a car in the drive
way and one of the crews
received word that there
may be an elderly res
ident still in the home.
Firefighters forced entry
into the home and began
an interior search of the
structure. A thorough
search determined that no
one was at home.
The fire appears to have
originated on the back
porch where it quickly
spread up the back wall
of the home and extend
ed into the attic via the
soffits, according to the
release.
Crews deployed two
hose lines to extinguish
the fire.
“An examination of the
scene reveals that there is
no evidence to indicate
that the fire was inten
tionally set,” Barrow
County fire investigator
Lt. Blair Darst said.
The home and its con
tents received moderate
fire, smoke and water
damage. The Red Cross
was dispatched to assist
the three adults and one
child who live in the
home.

where a woman report
ed she was the victim
of fraud and had been
coerced into transferring
$3,100 to an unknown
person she believed to be
trying to hire her.
•harassment at a North
Fifth Avenue residence,
where a man reported a
man he had been involved
in a fight with about a
month ago had driven by
his residence and yelled
at him and then drove off.
•theft by taking at an
East Northcrest Drive res
idence, where a woman
reported the theft of a
basketball goal from the
side of her driveway.
•hit and run; duty of
the driver to stop at or
return to the scene of an
accident at Mystik, West
Athens Street, where a
man reported as he was
pulling into the gas sta
tion in his 2014 Cadillac
STS he was struck by the
driver of a Chevrolet Sil
verado truck that left the
scene.
•theft by taking at a
Partridge Trail residence,
where a man reported the
theft of a drill, two battery
chargers and three batter
ies.
•burglary at GNC, Mon
roe Highway, where a
window had been broken
out and at least $1,000 in
testosterone boosters and
sports nutrition supple
ments had been taken.
•harassing phone calls at
a Second Street residence,
where a man reported he
received a message on his
cell phone telling him he
should pay $300 or "he
and his family would be
killed."
•deposit account fraud/
bad checks at South State
Bank, Mimosa Street,
where a fraudulent check
in the amount of $1,820
had been cashed.
•no insurance, expired
license plate, possession
of marijuana, possession
and use of drug-related
objects and drugs not kept
in original container at
Huddle House, West May
Street, where a traffic stop
was initiated on the driver
of a 2000 Toyota Camry.
•damage to proper
ty at Top Dawn Tavern,
Exchange Circle, Bethle
hem, where a man report
ed damage to his 2016
Chevrolet Malibu while it
was parked at this loca
tion. He said someone
left a business card on his
windshield in regards to
the damage, but no one
answered the phone num
ber on the card.
•giving a false name,
address or birthdate to a
law enforcement officer
and theft by taking at a
Second Street residence,
where a man reported his
brother came into his res
idence uninvited and stole
a “pile of his clothes.”
