ADAMS NAMED PARAMEDIC OF THE YEAR

GSP report recent arrests
At the 27th annual Region 10
EMS Banquet on Thursday, April
26, Brenda Adams was recognized
as the Paramedic of the Year for
Barrow County Emergency Ser
vices. The annual event highlights
EMS professionals from around the
northeast Georgia region.
Adams has been with Barrow
County for over 11 years and has
received numerous accolades from
her patients. In a recent case, Adams
and her partner responded to a
patient possibly having a stroke.
Adams initiated patient assess
ment to try and determine what was
going on.
Although the assessment was
not conclusive, Adams’ training
and experience told her to treat for
stroke, according to a news release

ported to a local hospital that had
stroke care available.
She took the patient directly to CT
where the patient was diagnosed as
having a stroke.
The patient was extremely thank-

Adams was also recognized for
helping others in need. She has vol
unteered with a nonprofit called Off
the Chain, which builds dog fences
so dogs can be taken off chain and
run some.
“Brenda is a great asset to the
department and shows incredi
ble compassion and care to her
patients,” said BCES Chief John
Skinner. “She is a great example of
the men and women that serve the
citizens of Barrow County.”
Also honored at the banquet was
the memory of Gary Little. Little
started with Barrow County in 1988
and served the citizens of Barrow
County for more than 30 years.
He died in 2017. His family was in
attendance to receive his Dedicated
Service Award.
“He was very dedicated to the care
of the citizens of Barrow County
and played a big role in the form
ing of the Bethlehem Fire Station,”
Skinner said.

doors were still locked and all his
belongings were still inside.
