day, May 4, 2018, at Piedmont
Athens Regional Medical
Center.
Mr. Barrett was born in
Gainesville, the son of the late
Frank and Gatha Martin Bar
rett. Fie was employed at Old
Castle Products. Mr. Barrett
was preceded in death by his
brother, Thomas Barrett.
Survivors include his wife,
Terrie Allison Nelson Bar
rett, Commerce; daughters,
Courtney Barrett, Gainesville,
and Sissy Barrett, Commerce;
son, Charlie Barrett, Flowery
Branch; brother, Rod Barrett,

Terry Mote
LULA - Terry Spencer
Mote, 71, passed away on Sat
urday, May 5, 2018.
Born in Banks County on
September 11, 1946, he was
a son of the late Ernest Mote
and Elena Miller King. Mr.
Mote retired front the Georgia
Department of Transportation
as the Safety Enhancement
Coordinator. He was an active
member at Mt. Carmel Bap
tist Church where he played
the bass guitar and formerly
served as the choir director
and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Mote was very knowl
edgeable when it came to the
Bible and he was musically
inclined having played gui
tars of all types, piano, banjo,
mandolin, saxophone, and
keyboard. He enjoyed yard
work, bird watching, garden
ing, writing poems and songs,
traveling on land, taking
cruises, snowmobiling, dog
sledding, visiting the Amish
country, going to the National
Quartet convention, playing
board games, and attending
grandkids ballgames. He was
active at creating homemade
inventions.
In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his
grandparents that raised him,
Alton and Lola Hulsey Mote;
father-in-law and mother-in-
law, J. L. and Frances White;
brothers-in-law, Richard Mar
lowe and Kenneth Cochran;
nieces, Courtney Lovell and
Dorinda Whitfield; and neph
ews, Mark Benfield and Kevin
Webb.
Survivors include his lov
ing wife of 54 years, Carolyn
White Mote, Lula; son, Paul

Marion Pinnell
On Saturday, May 5, 2018,
a glorious day, Marion Eugene
Pinnell left this world and
walked through the gates of
Heaven to meet his Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. Gene
was born on June 4, 1936,
in Chamblee, Ga. and grew
up in the loving home of his
parents, Marion Eugene Pin
nell, Sr. and Ethel Pinnell, who
preceded him in death, as did
two broth
ers Alex
and Ernest
Pinnell.
Gene,
also known
as Junior
to many
family
members,
grew up in
Tucker and
graduated from Tucker High
School. As a young man he
joined the Marines, which led
him to meeting a beautiful
young lady from Waltersboro,
S.C. On October 11, 1957,
Freida Bishop became his wife
and together they began an
adventure of a lifetime. Their
journey together of over 60
years included several house
hold moves, career changes,
planting and growing multiple
churches and ministering to
and serving others. Together
they raised three children and
have enjoyed watching their
family grow to include seven
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren. Gene enjoyed
traveling especially on his
motorcycle, golfing, serving
his church as a teacher and
counselor and meeting new
people. In fact, he rarely ever
met a stranger. After a very
colorful past. Gene became
an ordained minister in 1989.
During the years since, with
Freida by his side, he led many
to the light of Christ. In his
final days on this earth, he
enjoyed visits from his church
family, fellowship and wor
ship. A faithful servant of
God, Gene will be remem
bered as wonderful, kind,
fantastic, irresistible, lovable,
handsome and adorable.
Along with his loving wife
Freida, Gene is survived by
daughter, June Martin, her hus
band Mike Martin; son, David
Pinnell, his wife Amy Pinnell;
and daughter, Joy DiMuzio,
her husband John DiMuzio.
Grandchildren include Tasha
Staton, her husband Danny
Staton; Justin Martin, his wife
Haley Martin; Nicole Thomas,
her husband Mike Thomas;
US Army SPC Clint Pin
nell; Danielle DiMuzio, her
husband Fin Sheridan; Tori
Sanders, her husband Brady
Sanders; and Luci DiMuzio.
Great-grandchildren include
Alex, Marlee and Annslie Sta
ton; and Camryn and Reagan
Martin. He is also survived
by two sisters, Alice Greer
and Betty Pinnell and special
friends to the family, Paul and
Susan Pirkle.

held Monday, May 7, in the

WINDER - Frances Flem
ing Smith (Fran), 87, began
her eternal life on Friday, April
27, 2018.
Fran was born on October
19, 1930, in Miami Beach, Fla.
She lived in Ocala, Fla. for 49
years before moving to Winder
to be closer to her son and
his family. She loved her God
and served the church in many
capacities over the years. She
held multiple offices, taught
Sunday School, was a former
past-president of United Meth
odist Women, served commu
nion to the shut-ins and was
a member of the WY Smith
Sunday School Class at Wind
er UMC. During her time in
Florida, she ran the first Meals
on Wheels route in Ocala,
was past-president of Marion
County Senior Services and
the Eight Street Elementary
School PTA, served on the
advisory boards for Eight
Street, Osceola and Forest
High School, was a member
of the Chamber of Commerce
Education Committee, Direc
tor of the Drug Prevention Hot
Line and past-president/mem-
ber of Beta Phi Chapter of
Epsilon Alpha Sorority.
She loved her children,
grandchildren, and great
grandchildren, as well as her
14 foster babies.
Survivors include her three
children, Lee Smith (Debbi)
Carrollton, Va., Lorre Smith
(Jim), Plano, Texas, and Steven
Smith (Kim), Winder; brother,
Dr. James Fleming (Nancy),
Canton, Ga.; seven grandchil
dren; ten great-grandchildren;
two nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, James and
Alma Fleming; a sister, Joan
Merrick; and a granddaughter,
Jaime Osbourne.
A Celebration of Life Ser
vice will be held at Winder
UMC on Saturday, May 19,
at 11 a.m. The family will be
receiving friends from 10 to
10:45 a.m. immediately pre
ceding the Celebration of Life
Service.
An additional celebration
will take place in Ocala, Fla.
