Dorothy “Dotty or Dolly" Elchler Scranton
JEFFERSON — Dorothy “Dotty or Dolly” Eichler
Scranton passed away peacefully on Sunday, September
26, 2021.
Born on October 15,
1935 in Greenwich, Conn.,
Dotty was the daughter of
the late Albert Eichler and
Dorothy Hawkins Eichler
She was preceded in
death by her granddaugh
ter, Patricia Sarantos.
Dotty was a kind, giving
and beautiful woman who
touched so many lives.
Her love and strong spir
it is going to be missed,
especially by her children,
Sharon Sarantos (Pete), Donna Parent (Ralph), Tammy
Miller, Robin Scranton and Warren B. Scranton III ( Ta-
sha); 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister,
Phyllis Heath, Atascadero, Calif.; and three nephews.
Dotty our mom was very blessed to have such won
derful neighbors especially Audrey Cash who was there
everyday and never left her side. Our family could not
be more grateful to have her in our lives.
A private funeral will be held.

Jack G. Slover Sr.
CUMMING — Jack G. Slover Sr., 92, Cumming,
passed away Tuesday, October 12,2021.
He is preceded in death
by his wife, the former
Rebecca (Becky) Tolbert,
Jefferson; parents, Mary
G. and John F. Slover Sr.;
brother, John F. Slover Jr.;
sister-in-law, Dot Slover,
Macon; brothers and sis-
ters-in-law, Curtis and Nell
Segars, Gainesville, and
Tabo and Nora Tolbert,
Jefferson; and sister-in-law
Glenda Tolbert, Pender
grass.
Jack was of the “Old Atlanta Group” attending Sylvan
Hill Elementary, Joe Brown Junior High, Tech High and
Georgia Tech. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He
retired from Southern Engineering Company as the ex
ecutive vice president after 41 years of service.
He enjoyed all sports. While at Tech High School he
was the 1947 GIAA 100-yard and 220-yard dash State
Track Champion and was a 1947 All City and All Re
gion Half Back for Brown High, where he graduated in
January of 1948.
Jack was a forever Methodist joining the “Log Cab
in Methodist Church” on Deckner Ave. in Sylvan Hills
in the early 1930’s and was at present a member of the
Cumming First United Methodist Church and the Sorta
Fifties Sunday School class. He was a member of the
Tech High School 4th Quarter Club and a member of the
Tech High School Board of Directors, along with being
a former member of the Sawnee EMC Consumer Advi
sory Task Force, a former member of the Jefferson Lions
Club and the East Point-Cascade Elks Club.
Jack is survived by his son, Jack G. Slover Jr. and his
wife Jade Slover, Atlanta; daughter, Ginger S. Riggs and
her husband Wade Riggs, Gadsden, Tenn.; five grand
children; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Mel
vin “Monk” Tolbert, Pendergrass; along with many niec
es, nephews and friends.
Family to receive friends: Wednesday, October 20,
2021 from 5 until 8 p.m. at McDonald and Son Funeral
Home.
Funeral service: Thursday, October 21,2021 at 11 a.m.
at McDonald and Son Funeral Home. Graveside ser
vice will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at
Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson.

Cumming First United Methodist Church’s Sorta Fifties

Mary Alice Smith
JEFFERSON — Mary Alice Smith, 73, Jefferson,
left this world in the comfort of her home and with her
loving husband holding her hand after a lengthy illness
on SUNDAY, October 10, 2021. She was a caring wife,
mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.
She was bom near Dub
lin on September 27, 1948
to Earlene Sheppard who
unfortunately died while
Mary Alice was a young
girl. She was lovingly
raised by J.T. Right (AKA
Red) and Evelyn Right and
then later a special step
mother, Carolyn Snider.
Her siblings included two
brothers, Edward Shep
pard and J.W. (Christina)
Right; and three sisters,
Elizabeth (David) Butts, Karen (Ron) Claxton and Kim
Jackson. She also left behind a sister-in-law, Marisue
(Cal) Avery.
She and her husband, Russell Eugene (Gene) Smith
were married for nearly 54 years and adored one an
other. Together, they had three children, Russell Smith
Jr., Austin, Texas, Marti (Mark) Gibbs, Gainesville,
and Ben (Sarah) Smith, Cleveland. They also had eight
beautiful grandchildren, Deann Smith, Cassandra Ran
gel, Kyle Smith, Riley Smith and Zack, Ethan, Taryn
and Mia Gibbs. There are several great-grandchildren
as well.
After raising her children, Mary Alice earned her B.S.
in Social Work as well as a Master’s in Social Work
from the University of Georgia. During her career, she
worked in the Psychology Clinic at UGA as well as for
Psychiatric Health Services and DFACS - Adult Pro
tective Services. She loved her job as well as helping
people.
Mary Alice was always ready with a funny joke that
would make you laugh or even blush a little! She was an
avid reader and enjoyed watching game shows on televi
sion. During their retirement years, they took advantage
of their time together and took many trips and saw many
beautiful places around the world. Some of her favorite
trips were when they visited Ireland, Nova Scotia and
Durango/Silverton Railroad. She and her husband are
members of Union Baptist Church in Winder.
Funeral service: Thursday, October 14, 2021, at
2 p.m. in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the
Revs. Kevin Carter and Tony Powers officiating. The
burial will follow on Friday, October 15,2021at 11 a.m.
in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with the Rev. Emory
Fennell officiating. Honored as pallbearers will be Jay
Poole, Zack Gibbs, Ethan Gibbs, Taryn Gibbs, Carlin
Stewart and Joseph Stewart.

Bobby Maurice Stewart
Bobby Maurice Stewart, 78, was a loving husband,
father, grandfather, brother and friend. Bobby loved his
Savior, Jesus Christ, and went to be with the Lord on
Wednesday, October 13,2021.
Bobby was born to Ma
jor and Nina Stewart on
August 24, 1943 in Tako-
ma Park, Maryland. He
was preceded in death by
his loving wife, June Stew
art, of 48 year's.
Bobby had a long and
successful career at Bell-
south where he retired after
42 year's. He enjoyed work
ing in his garden, spending
time with his grandchil
dren, and woodworking.
Bobby faithfully served in his church his entire life. He
was a founding member of Hope Crossings Church of
Jefferson. He was loved by everyone who met him and
lived a life of joyful service to the Lord.
Bobby is survived by his three daughters and their
husbands who became sons, Shelley and Jim Glenfield,
Lisa and Chris Stephens and Janna and Anthony Knight;
grandchildren, Tyler and Kate Stephens, Renee and Matt
Johnson, Amanda and Zach Newquist, Katelyn Stephens,
Rachel and Timothy Agee, Victoria Knight and Jake
Knight; great-grandchildren, Maddox, Colton and Trey
Johnson; siblings, Sandra McKee, Myra Smith and John
Stewart; along with many other family members who
loved him dearly. His family will cany on his legacy of
love for Jesus.

Christopher Lee Stewart
HULL — Christopher Lee Stewart, 40, Hull, passed
away on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Bom in Athens, he was a son of Cindy Lee Shepherd
and the late Richard Allen Stewart Sr. Christopher enjoyed
riding motorcycles and he was a member of the Southern
Knights Motorcycle Club. In addition to his father, he was
preceded in death by his grandparents.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his son,
Levi Shelton; three brothers, Richard Allen Stewart Jr.,
Brandon Blake Stewart and Codie Linn Stewart; special
friends and family, Hunter Cowart and Rosia Weaver
(Erik); and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Henry Wiley Underwood
PENDERGRASS — Henry Wiley Underwood, 94, Pender
grass, passed away on Tuesday, October 12,2021.
Mr. Underwood was bom
in Pendergrass, a son to
the late David Paul Under
wood and the late Sara Sa-
fronah Smith Underwood.
Mr. Underwood had worked
at McEver Meat Products,
GoldKist and Wayne Farms.
He was a member of the
Pendergrass Baptist Church,
where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Underwood also was a
veteran of the United States
Army, serving in WWII, in
the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Underwood was preceded in
death by his wife, Martha Agnes Black Underwood; and 11
brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his children, Steve Underwood and his
wife Judy, Jefferson, Donald Underwood and his wife Vickie,
Pendergrass, and Pam Fowler and her husband Jamie, Jeffer
son; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous
nieces; nephews; and cousins also survive.
Funeral service: Friday, October 15, 2021 at 11a.m. in
the Pendergrass Baptist Church with the Reverends Randall
Hulsey and Dwayne Major officiating. The burial will follow
in the Pendergrass Baptist Church Cemetery with Trace Butch
er, Will Beatty, Andrew Fowler. Shannon Underwood, Cannon
Underwood and Eric Terrazzas honored as pallbearers.

Sandra Elaine Aderhold Vandiver
COMMERCE — Sandra Elaine Aderhold Vandiver, 82,
Commerce, died Sunday, October 17,2021 at Brighter Morn
ings.
Mrs. Vandiver was bom in Commerce to the late Thomas
Jefferson and Geneva Webb Aderhold. She was a member of
Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was retired as an investigator
with the State Court of Jackson County.
Mrs. Vandiver is survived by her husband, William Bran
non Vandiver Sr., Commerce; sons, Billy Vandiver, Com
merce, and Tommy Vandiver. Greenville, S.Cc; and five
grandchildren.
Graveside funeral service: Wednesday, October 20, 2021
at 11 a.m. at Grey Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Will Cofield
officiating.

Chester Whisman Jr.
WINDER — Chester Whisman Jr., 79, Winder, passed
away Friday, October 15,2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center Braselton.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Chester and
Cloten Whisman; and broth
er, Charles Whisman.
He is survived by his wife,
Carolyn Whisman; son, Da
vid Whisman and wife Pam;
daughter, Vickie Bare and
husband Brace, all of Wind
er; brother. Woody Whisman,
Alabama; five grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren;
and a host of other relatives.

George Milton Williams Sr.
BETHLEHEM — George Milton Williams Sr., 82, Beth
lehem, passed away Thursday, October 14,2021.
He was a member of the Winder First United Methodist
Church. George was a track driver and was the co-owner of
George Williams, LLC. He was a lifetime member of OOI-
DA (Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association) and
a 57-year member of The Georgia Bulldog Club. For many
years, he enjoyed short track racing at Lanier Raceway.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and
Runell Elrod Williams; a sister, Ann Savage; and a grand
daughter, Kahdyra Camaran.
He is survived by a son, George Williams Jr. (Deborah),
Bethlehem; two daughters, Ronanne Brown (Charlie),
Bethlehem, and Kathy Camaran (Ricardo), Loganville; a
step-daughter, Susan Walls (David), Winder; eight grand
children, Michael Atkins, Brittany Fowler, Sarah Williams,
Jimmy Camaran, Ricardo Joel Camaran, Brandon Brooks,
Justin Duke and Alex Crowe; and eight great-grandchildren,
Adison Fowler, Bendy Fowler, Tucker-Lee Fowler, Elijah
Delacruz, Roman Atkins, Allie Atkins, Brinden Brooks and
Brinley Brooks.
