Barrow softball roundup
Playoff-implicated games engulf
Winder-Barrow, Apalachee and BASA
By Trevyn Gray
LOGANVILLE 13,
WINDER-BARROW 10
Winder-Barrow (9-
11 overall, 7-7 region)
traveled to Loganville
Monday night and
took a 13-10 loss in a
high-scoring affair.
The Lady Bulldoggs
had a 10-9 lead after
the top of the seventh.
However, the Lady Red
Devils scored four in
nings with their backs
against the wall to es
cape with the win.
The first two innings
were back and forth be
tween the two region ri
vals. Loganville scored
four runs in both of
the two periods, while
Winder scored five in
the second inning.
After Loganville put
up another run in the
third, Winder was faced
with a 9-5 deficit. But,
the Lady Bulldoggs put
together scoring in
nings in the fifth, sixth
and seventh innings to
take the lead down the
stretch.
Seniors Rylie Bed-
dingfield and Emily
Hall led the way with
two runs each. Most of
the starters for Winder
scored in the loss.
Beddingfield also got
the start on the mound,
pitching just one in
ning. She struck out
one and walked three,
while allowing four hits
and four runs. Rylie
Cox and Kaylee Little
pitched in relief. Cox
walked three and gave
up six hits and five runs.
Little took the loss from
the mount, striking out
three and giving up four
hits and three earned
runs.
Winder-Barrow now
prepares for a four-
game home slate to
close the season. The
Lady Bulldoggs have a
solid chance of making
the postseason, as they
are currently the fourth
seed in region 8-5A. If
they can maintain the
fourth seed, they’ll se
cure a spot in Super
Regionals in a couple
weeks.
APALACHEE 9,
SHILOH 0
Apalachee (21-6
overall, 12-3 region)
hosted a doublehead
er against region rival
Shiloh Tuesday night
and came away with its
12th shutout victory of
the season and its fifth
straight win.
The Lady Wildcats
won via mercy rule
behind successful bats
once again. Hannah
Hollingsworth scored
three runs and Alys-
sa Wilier scored two
runs. Madeline Peters

also had three RBIs and
a run, while Destiny
Montgomery had two
RBIs herself.
Ryleigh Sapp pitched
all five innings, striking
out 12 and only allow
ing one hit.
However, Apalachee’s
win streak came to an
end in the back half of
the doubleheader, as
Lanier won 7-6, end
ing the Lady Wildcats’
28-game home winning
streak.
Prior to that, the Lady
Wildcats traveled to La
nier, defeating the Lady
Longhorns 4-0 Thurs
day evening.
Apalachee now has a
week off from games
before wrapping up its
season in a doublehead
er at Habersham Central
next Tuesday and in the
season finale against
North Forsyth.
Apalachee has secured
at least a top three seed
in the upcoming Super
Regionals. As of now,
AHS will most likely
finish second in the re
gion. However, the race
is close as the end of
the season approaches
and the aforementioned
matchup against North
Forsyth in the finale
will be influential in the
final seedings.
BARROW ARTS &
SCIENCES 14,
ATHENS
CHRISTIAN 2
BASA (3-10 overall,
1-7 region) dominated
Athens Christian 14-2
in a huge region match
up on the road Tuesday
evening.
That win came behind
two five-run innings en
route to the mercy rule
win.
Cali Bernat filled up
the stat sheet for the
Lady Blazers in the
win, going 2-of-3 from
the plate with three
runs and five RBIs.
Alexis Mcree also had
three runs, while Ans-
ley Haney and Helena
Cadavid both added in
two of their own.
Sydney Reavis
pitched all five innings
for BASA, striking out
eight, walking one and
allowing four hits and
two runs.
The game had huge
playoff implications
for the Lady Blazers
as a loss would have
eliminated them from
postseason contention.
However, with the win,
they kept their season
alive.
Now, BASA awaits
Athens Christian’s
home matchup against
Rabun County Thurs
day.
BASA will likely be
cheering for Rabun in
the game, as an Athens
Christian loss sets up a
tie between BASA and
Athens Christian. If
Athens Christian wins,
BASA’s season is over.
If a tie does occur
between BASA and
Athens Christian, head
coach Catherine De-
Cocoo said the two
teams will have a play-
in game for the fourth
seed, tentatively sched
uled for Friday evening
at BASA’s home field.
Winder-Barrow is gearing up for the final stretch of the season with four consecutive home
games. The Lady Bulldoggs are well-positioned for a postseason berth, holding the fourth
seed in region 8-5A at the moment
Apalachee has guaranteed themselves a position among the top three seeds in the upcoming
Super Regionals. Currently, it appears highly probable that AHS will claim the second-place
spot in the region, but the competition is tight as the season nears its conclusion with a piv
otal fial showdown against North Forsyth (19-8 overall, 15-1 region).
BASA emerged victorious in their Tuesday night match against Athens Christian with a score
of 14-2. BASA is now in a waiting game as Athens Christian faces Rabun County in a on Thurs
day. If Athens Christian wins , BASA’s season will be over. If they lose, they will face off in a
play-in game on Friday in Winder, where the teams will compete for the fourth seed.
