continued from IB
the season and get healthy along the whole line, that’s
been a big plus for us. But, those kids keep working.”
It appears it’s a known fact across the school that the
offensive line is a huge part of the team. After Hollo
way’s rushing touchdown on the Wildcats’ opening
drive, the PA announcer Kyle Bailey recognized each
player on the offensive line that led to the score.
But, they still lost.
They came into this game knowing that this may
have been their last chance to potentially sneak into
the playoffs by knocking off the current No. 2 seed in
region 8-6A. Now, they remain in last place with only
two games left to go.
Apalachee would need a ton of help to snag the No.
4 seed now. Luckily, it’s definitely possible. But, it
would have to win out and hope for some bad losses
by the three teams sitting above.
Even so, Hancock said the Wildcats are focused on
themselves, nobody else.
He also said one wouldn’t even be able to tell they
were struggling as much as they have been, based on
the way practices go.
“The kids keep showing up,” Hancock said. “We’ve
got great kids here, and I love these kids. They’re fun
to be around.”
That’s unheard of from teams with the type of re
cent struggles that the Wildcats have had. The youth’s
hate for losing would normally permeate into games
and practices, especially after 19 consecutive losses.
“We don’t talk about the streak,” Hancock said.
“We talk about 1 -0 each week. I know that’s a cliche,
but that’s how we work. We can’t focus on the past;
we focus on the future.”
It’s yet to be seen what the future will hold for this
Apalachee team. The continued drive to be success
ful, even in a deep hole of losses, is the only that is
apparent.
“God’s put me through some tests, but all it’s done
is strengthened my faith in Him and strengthened
my faith in this program,” Hancock said. “It has just
made me stronger. I will come out of this better, and
our kids are gonna come out of this better. Struggle
makes you stronger.”
“We’re going to climb out of this. I know that for
certain.”
