Escaped work release inmate
captured in Barrow County
On Sunday, Oct. 8, the Winder
Police Department received a call
from the Jackson County Correc
tional Institution, alerting them
about the escape of an inmate who
was believed to be in Winder.
The escaped inmate, Tylnelius
Hobbs, had managed to break free
from the Jackson County Work Re
lease program in Jefferson.
At the time of his escape, Hobbs
was last known to be with his cur
rent girlfriend, who resides on
James Albert Johnson Avenue in
Winder.
Officers from the WPD went to
the girlfriend’s residence, where
they found her standing alone out
side near her vehicle.
During their conversation, she in
formed the officer that she had not
seen Hobbs since Saturday.
However, the officer had informa
tion suggesting that she had played
a role in Hobbs’ escape.
The officer revealed that he was
aware she had picked up Hobbs
from Jackson County Prison and
taken him on an approved pass.
Their journey had taken them past
the prison, and they had made a
stop at Airport Road and I.W. Davis
Road in Jefferson before departing
from the area.
Upon further discussion, the girl
friend disclosed that Hobbs was at
a residence on Mount Moriah Road
in Auburn and was attempting to
secure a ride to his father’s house,
also located in Auburn.
Winder PD reached out to the
Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and
requested assistance in checking
to see if Hobbs was indeed at the
Mount Moriah Road residence.
The BCSO successfully located
Hobbs and took him into custody.
Hobbs was transferred into the cus
tody of the Winder Police Depart
ment without incident .
He was subsequently handed over
to Jackson County Prison authori
ties.
Man trespasses at ex-girlfriend’s
home, threatens
A Barrow County officer respond
ed to a 911 call hang-up on Oct. 8
to discover a domestic dispute un
derway at 1015 Monroe Highway.
The female caller alleged that her
ex-boyfriend had arrived uninvited
and was making threats of violence
at her residence.
The suspect had fled the scene pri
or to the officer’s arrival. The caller
said he showed up unannounced at
the property and when she demand
ed he leave, he started threatening
to “shoot up” the residence.
She said she took that threat to
mean that he would shoot both
her and her elderly uncle, but she
couldn’t confirm if he possessed a
firearm. The caller noted that this
pattern of escalating behavior be
gan after their breakup.
Prior to the Oct. 8 incident, the
couple had been living together un
til Jan. 2023, when she he left him
to become the caregiver for her
physically challenged uncle. The
suspect’s unexpected visits, accu
sations and threats have continued
since their separation.
to ‘shoot it up 5
She expressed that she was fear
ful of him as he exploited her help
lessness due to her uncle’s physical
limitations.
The officer interviewed the uncle,
who corroborated the caller’s ac
count of the suspect’s unwelcome
visits. He saidhe heard him yelling
but couldn’t discern the specific
threats described by the caller.
In a prior incident on Aug. 28, the
suspect had received a Notice of
Prohibited Entry, warning him not
to return to the property within six
months without risking a criminal
trespass charge.
On the following day, another
Barrow County officer located the
suspect’s truck parked near a resi
dence. The officer arrested the sus
pect in the front yard due to him
having active warrants.
The suspect was transported to
the Barrow County Detention Cen
ter, where he was served with the
warrant and placed in custody. In
addition to previous charges, the
man also faces an additional charge
for criminal trespassing.
