THOMAS CANS QUARANTINED
¢; b -
Thomasville, June 15,~—Stringent
measures for eombating the Mosaie dis
case in sugarfi\ane have been adoped by
the State Board of Entomology and
striet “quapintines, ha\;e been put on
in all counties where that disease has
made ity appearence, According to the
rules of the quarantine ‘territory and
ineluded in' it are Thomas, Mitchell
and that portion of Decatur county
east of the Flint River,
:» Accopding to the laws of the qua
rantine regulations no sugarcane ship
‘ments can be made to any other count
ies irithe State from any of the in
fected counties, except to those that
[also under quarantine, the object being
to confine the disease to the counties
[whcre the sugarcane is already infected,
| After the cane is ground this fall
all off the poots and stubbje from
| which the cane has been cut, h i
it showed any signs of the Mosait
disease, are required to be burnt, There
are other rules as to the treatment of
the- disease, showing that the boaxd
is determined to eradicate this disease,
which if left to sppead will ~he - a
serious menaee to' the sugarcane in
dustry of this part of the State. So
far as known there is comparatively
little of the disease in this county.
It does not ecffect the cane as far
as suing it for orinding is econcerned
but if left to spread it will cut down
the epop and eventually injjure it
livery greatly.
