POLICEMAN, SHOT THROUGH
) HEART YESTERDAY.
W,aycposs, August 27.—As a result
of g pistol' duel, Walter Brakes, a
member of 'the Waycross Police Force
is dead and Tom Smith, a negro, is
at the point of death here. The shoot:

Brakes died withing a very few min
utes and the negro was placed under
arrest by officers: who were immediz
tely summoned, and carried to\the
county jail where he was given medi
cal ‘attention.
