PROM PARTY.’
The following young men were hosts
last evening, eutertaining a number of
their friends aost delightfully:

affair was in the nature of a prom
party and was given at the ilome of
Tom and Karl M.zirkert on Fourteenth
avenue. Brown-eyed Susans and other

tions of the rooms and 'p.orch. The
refreshments consisted of punch which
was served throughout the evening,

PRESERVED PEARS.

1 pound of pears, 1 cupful of of water
Zipound of sugar.
' Pears may be preserved whole, in
halves, or quarters. Seckel pears are
often proserved whole. If Keifer
pears are used, they should boil in
clear water after being pared unfil
>they can be easily pierced with a darn
ing noedle; then place them in the
syrup, cook, cool, pack, process pints
15 minutes and quarts. 20 minutes
at'sirfi:,merlng and seal.
‘GINGER PEARS.
Use hard or unripe pears, pare, core
and cut intd very thin clices. To 'eigh(
pounds of sugar, one cupful of water,
'jyic‘e_ of four lemons, cut lemen rinds
into thin strips and add. Also add on'e‘
eighth yound'of ginger root cut into
picces, Simmer until thick as marma
lade. Pack like peach jam.

Wipe and cut a slice of veal in
pieces, cover with boiling water and ‘
simmer until tender. Drain, rub in
" some salt, dip in beaten egg and crack
er dust and fry in deep fat.
Make a sauce by blending two table 5
spoons of butter and one tablespoon
flour, adding one cup of water in which
the veal was cooked, a few’grains of - 5
; - pepper, a little salt and one teaspoon
{ grated horseradish a few drops of on
ion juice and 1-4 cup of cream.
