HORNED OWL ANSWERS -
CALL OF CARROLL MAN
AND 1S CAPTURED
Atlanta, Ga, Oct. 20.—Those 'per-l
sons who are prone to be a bit skep
tical as to the'ability of a human be
ing to hold vocal communications
with the birds of the air should hear
the very interesting aacount which
G. T. Williams of Temple, Ga., gives |
of calling to him and capturing a 1
huge horned owl, on his .farm in Car-'
roll county. }
__For gome time Mr. Williams had
been hearing peculiar noises on his
farm, and immediately identifying
them with the horned owl, and real
izing that this peculiar species was
a rarity in this section of the state,
decided to attempt its capture. He
accordingly, about three weeks ago,
‘went out with his gun, and hearing
the owl’s call, gave so perfect an imi
‘tation of an answering call that with
in a few geconds the huge bird made
its appearance.
No sooner, however, had it per
ceived. its mistake in recognizing Mr.
Williams’ call. as that of one of its
own kind; than it was overtaken by a
sudden fit of anger. Shrieking and
flapping its wings, it made.a vicious
charge uuon M. Willfams, who says
he was compelled to defend himself
vigorously to aveoid being injured.
He soon managed to stun the owl with
a blow on its head from his gun.
MOONSHINERS ARE SAID
TO BE CUTTING PRICES
Moultrie, Oct. 20.—Moonshiners
and bootleggersd around Moultrie
have joined in the general price cut
ting movement, if rumors on the ini
tiated are to be believed. “Bottled
in barn,” or just plain souhtu Geor
gia “stump,” is now selling at the fac
tories at $9 the gallon, against $l2,
the former price. When it is deliv
ered in Moultrie it is quoted at $l2,
against $l6.
The reduced prices went into ef
fect during the latter part of last
week when the general financial
stringency cut business, it is stated.
There has also been a drop in rye
whiskey which is smuggled into
Florida ports and brought into south
Georgia by bootleggers, good brands
being quoted at .70 a case, or less
than $6 a quart, which vepresents a
decline of nearly 100 per cent in this
class of bottled goods.
