MISS EVELYN ROBUCK HOST
ESS TO THALIAN CLUB.
Miss Evelyn Robuck was hostess
on Wednesday afternoon at the
most informal meeting that the
THfilian Club has held this year
Having finished reading Henry VIII
a symposuim was held. Mrs. Whip
ple proved a splendid teacher, in
that she led everyone into' the dis-
Jussion, thereby bringing out many
different opinions. o
Each member responded to rol
call with a quotation from the play
The following were the questions
asked:
1* Viewing the play as a whole,
what is its great artistic defeat?
2. Discuss Shakespeare's charac
terization of Henry VIII.
3. What portrait is drawn of Anne
Boleyn? What impression do we
get of her character?
4. Estimate the character of the
Ol@ Lady. Compare her with the
nurse in Romeop and Juliet.
5. Is there a progressive rise in
the* dramatic effect in the three in
stances that illustrate the promise
of the prologue that the play shall
exhibit how mightness meets mis
ery?
6. How does the end of the play
exhibit the transference of absolute
power once wielded by Wholsey? In
this respect does the play exhibit
the true coursese of history?
Miss Robuck was assisted by her
mother Mr. (W, L. Robuck in serving
a delicious salad course with hot
chocolate. After refreshments every
one entered into an enthusiastic dis
cussion of plans for Reciprocity
Day. Those who enjoyed this
meeting were Mesdames R. L. Benn
Henry Mashburn; W. P. Fleming, J
B. Ryals, U. V. Whipple, Misses Ev
elyn Hill, Lillian Cannon and Helen
Comer. f
