COTTON MILLS TO PAY
* MILLIONS IN DIVIDENDS

Bubstantial Profits For Year.
Greenville, 8. ~ December 28.--
Appmxlmate\y a million dollars in
dividends will be paid January 1, to
stockholders by twenty cotton mill
corporations of Greenville county, ac
cording to information obtained to
dav frem the vavious institutions.
The Jnills have an aggregate capl
talization of about §30,000,000.

declaration of dividends, said the
profits carned earlier in the year
prior to the present depression
enabled the mills to pay substantial
yeiurng to the sharcholders of this
time.
The Wpodside Cotton Mills com
peny operating plants at Greenville
Simpsonville and Fountain Inn, 8. C.,
announced that it will declare a 5
per kent semi-annual dividend on
$1,760,000 common stock and 3 1-2
per cent semi-annual on $1,750,000
preferred stock.

Toronto, December 23.--Damages
of $5OO were awarded O, E. Fleming
a Windsor lawyer, today against the
Rev. J. O. L. Spracklin, who as a
liquor enforcement officer, searched
a vacht owned by the plaintiff last
September .
Cost of the legal action was alsc
against the clergyman. It was held
by the court that the search was con
ducted illegally.
The clergyman came into promi
pence last November when he was
‘charged with killing Beverly Trum
ble, a hotel proprietor, in a liquor
raid near Windsor. He was absolved
of blame by a 4 coroner's jury.
