Washington, Jan. 15.—, Joint reso
lution requesting the President to
call a conference of the nations of
the world to consider universal dis
armament was approved today by the
house foreign affairs .committee with
out a dissenting vote.
The -committee rejected nine to two
an amendment by Representative
Mason that an invitation to partici
pate in the conference be extended
to Ireland and the Phillipines.

Bible class at the First Baptist
Church Sunday morning. when the

sing before the class and will conduct
the song services throughout. Sev
eral of his best selections will be
given. The singer will also take an
‘active part in the song services in
the revival meeting throughout the
day.
~ Mr. Butler is well and most favor
ably remembered by the people of
Cordele, especially by the Baptist
congregation, since he conducted the
song services in the revival at this
church about & year ago.

Nashville, Jan. 15.—Alfred Alex
ander Taylor, the second mecmber of
the noted Taylor family of Tennesseg
to fill the office was inaugurated!

He is the third republican to hold
the office since reconstruction days.

BIG SINN FEIN PLOT
~ London, Jan. 15—What police al
leged to be another big Sinn Fein
plet to destroy property in London
was uncovered in ,Q@rt today when
Patrick Kenny, Irishman, charged
with participation in an attempt to
‘murder two policemen, and trying to
ignite barrels of oil on the premises
of the Vacuum Oil Company.
Early this morning three policemen
discovered fifteen men lurking nea»
the Vacuum premises, some of them
apparently having just come from the
yards. In the fight which followe?l

escaped .
The police claim to have discover
ed elaborate preparations for igniting
oil.

MEASURE.
Washingten, Jan. 15.—With ten
amendments added, the House emer
gency tariff bill was approved today
by the senate finance committeee and
will be reported to the senate Mon
day. There was no record vote on
any of the seven amendments ad
ded at today’s meet:ny, although
Simmons said the Democrats “gen
erally,” voted against everything.
One of the amendments agreed to
yvesterday, placing a duty on certain
dairy preducts, was changed today,
a higher rate being accepted.

Annapolis, Jan. 15.—Struck oun the

Harriet Kavanaugh of Buffalo, nurse
at the naval academy hospital, died
at the hospital today without regain
ing consciousness. The assault oc
curred last night near the academy
grove on the road between Annapolis
and the hospital.
