BATHTUBS VERSUS AUTOS
Uneflicial reposts figure ihat Cordele now has about
¢nethird as many bathtubs 2s autos, which is quite a
gain from three years ago convidering the inereased num
ber of autos used. We thinl: the advance is due to a more
refined civilization we are evolving, due of course (of
course!!) to our recently ovganized School of Plumbing
aund Heating 1! One of the pessimists that infests the pub
lic loafing places says it ain't just natural cleanness make
'ein buy bathtubs but yeu have to get the dust off your
hide after vou've been auto viding, We leave the seleetion
of the reason to you! We know when we put yours in you
will have a good reason,
Speak for yours now if you want cne this summer, and
don’t forget that we put in mighty good heating of all
kinds from the modest pipeless to the most perfoet vapor
system.

.OWNDES GRAND JURY DEMANDS
RiIGID ENFORCEMENT.
Valdosta, Ga., Feb. 4.—Cattle tick
vadication will be pushed more vig
orcusly in Lowndes county this year
han ever before, with the practical
certainty that the work will be com
sleted by next fall. That is, provid
«l the cattle owners, inspectors and
officials charged with enforcing the
aw co-operate with one another.
The questicn was threshed out be
e the grand jury in a two-day ses
iion this wteek, in which opponents
uf the law and those in favor of it
vere given opportunity to express
‘temselves. After hearing from cit
‘zons from different sections of the
county the grand jury adopted a re
;olution strongly urging a full com
olinnce with the law and a vigorous
srosecution of the work,
Exptnditures Are Heavy.
Dr, P. I, Bahnsen, State Veteri
warian and Dr. McKeller, representa
iive of the Federal Covernment, ap
“eared before the jury and explained
ihe operation of the law and the
methods which will be undertaken
his year to enforce it. Lowndes
county has spent between $75,000 and
iB¢,ooo and five year's time trying to
lp & work that cught to be accom
lished in one year.
Amons the citizeng who appeared
sefore the orand jury were a number
who said they had spent more in dip
ying their cattle than the cattle were
worth today. Offers were freely made
o sell herds on that basis. It de
seloped in the grand jury investiga
.icn that the bitterest opposition to
‘he law was from the small farmers
g cattle cwner—the man with 6 to
20 head of ru\\".v., while a majority of
he larger cattle owneors 'were enthu
dastie supporters of the law. These
men said their cattle were more
thrifty than before dipping was begun
and that their valve in many cases
nad increased as much as fifty per
cent since eradicating the tick.
