CORONER’S JURY
WITNESS TO LINCOLN COUNTY
KILLING GIVES STATEMENT
Lincolnton, Ga., July s.—lnquest to
day over the hodies of Frank - and
Wayne Cullors, yduths shot to death
late yesterday by Sheriff W. S. Harri
son, failed to prod’l‘lce a verdi¢t. The
victims were members of a prominent
Lincoln county family, their father,
Johnson Cullors, now deceased, hav
ing once been a member of the Legis
lature from Lincoln. They were kill
ed by the sheriff ';m a result of an a:-
tercation when they met the officer
on the outskirts of town.
Frank Guillebeau and W. L. Dozier,
young men of Lincoln county were
with the victims’ at the time of the
shooting. Dozier's statement ocrrod
orated by Guillebeau, was given at the
inquest. He saig they had started
home with the Cullors, and were ovm‘-l
taken by Sheriff Harrison, who order
’od them to stop, He said the sheriff
texplained he did not want to arrest
'them or search ‘the ca‘r, but to inter
rogate tltem about a disturbance he
said they caused in town.
R. L. Burgess, an uncle of the Cul
lors, who had had tromhlcvwith them
during the aftefnoon, drove up at this
time, Dozier said, and a quarrel en
sued. He declared Burgess and the
sheriff both drew guns, and that the!
sheriff shot Frank Cullors three times |
and Wayne two or three times. Both
youths fell at the first shot. Doazier
continued.
Burgess claims Frank Cullots had
taken his pistgl away from him and
was beating him in the face when the
sheriff began firing. The officer
claims he shot only to save his life
and beat the youths to the draw.
