sion. During the afternoon, vari

home on Thirteenth Avenue,

the guests, by Miss Julia Terrell,
_and at the close of the afternoon, a
delicicus_ice course in pink and yel
low, was served by the hostess as
sisted by Misses Mildred and
Catherine Brown, Emma and
Cornelia Arvaditi, A beautifully
‘embossed birthday cake held six
‘tiny pink and yellow tapers in rose
‘bud holders. N
The little honoree was ‘the -
cipient of many lovely gifts. Favors
concisting of dainty little baskets,
rose adornad and filled with ‘candy,
were presented the girls, and
bouncing balls were given the boys.

of the solicitor of the Baldwin county
court, for two years was defeated in
the house of representatives by a vote
of 94 to 79, at Friday morning's ses

In vetoing the hill Governor Walker
stsi't'cdv i‘n a message transmitted to
the house that he was compelled to
dlsupm"ove the message ' because it
would “fix a dengerous and most hane
ful precedent.” '
The governor gtated that the’ bill
was in opposition to the law, which
provides that the appointment be
made by the governor. Tuture harm
ful bickerings over political differ
ences if such a precedent were estab
lished, were declared inevitable hy
the governor, '
The bill introduced by Representa
tive linnis, of Baldwin, extended the
term of the solici‘tqr from two to four
years, and it was declared by members
during the dcbate that the effect of
it would be to’ keep a Hardwick ap
pointee in office for a double term,
and refuse the prerogative of appoint
ing a nm’v man,‘to Governor Walker,
