WOMAN 1S JAILED FOR
‘ WOUNDING MAN FATALLY
| —_—
~ Hagerstown Md. July 15.—John A.
Sigafoose, 10, of Brunswick, is
dead; Frank Burger, of Hagerstown,
is in a hospital with a bullet hole
through his back, and Mrs. Cora
Rickett Wilkinson, of this city, i 8 in
jail charged with the shooting.
The shooting resulted from a quar
rel following a day spent in the
country near here, According to po
lice 4 quarrel arose between Burger
and his wife and Burger drew a pis
tol. Mrs. Wilkingon disarmed him
and then began shooting., 'The first
bullet struck Burger in the back and
the second killed Sigafoose,
Mrs. Wilkingon admitted firing the
shots, police said, but would not ex
plain why she had done it.
Mrs, Wilkingon has heen separated
from her husband for some time and
Sigafoose was living apart from his
wife,
ry is not upheld by facts.
. In some cases a slight quarrel
with a superior ig sufficient to in
duce a 2 man to commit suicide. In
another case a girl is dismigsed for
another jon, she turns on the gas,
In a third case 5 young man comes
home from college with a poor re
port and puts a buliet through his
brain. Cases of this kind can hard-
Ily bhe ascribed to money wolries,
the physicians say, and thercfore,
Ihnvc reasoned it out that peoples’
( nerves were shattered by dealing
with figures of twelve and fifteen
digits that they commit irrational
acts on the glightest provocation.

“Quality Has Made It Famous”
Washingion, July 15.—8 ix of the
ten counts in the indietment of
Harry F, Sinclair for contempt of the
senate were sustained today in the
supreme court of the District of Co
lembia, .
Justice Hoehling ruled out questions
asked of Sinclair about the alleged
contribution of Sinclair consolidated
stocks to Will H. Hays, or some one
representing the republican national
coemmittee, and transfer of funds from
the National Park Bank of New York
of the National Metropolitan Bank
of Washington, as not pertinent, He
also named the gsame decision on the
final count which charged Sinclair
with refusing to answer any ques
tions.
Time for New Plea
Sinclair was given 20 days to plead
again, In reviewing the case, Jus
tice Hoehling cited various prece
denl's and following the general rule
in such questions declared the issue
cf the authority of congress should
be resolved against the defendant
and in favor of the existence of the
power to compel pertinent testimony
in aid of the exercise of its legisla--
tive function, hut excluding self in
crimination.
On the claim of counsel for Sin
clair that the senate, if it had au--
thority to ask the questions’ had de
rrived itself of jurisdiction by the
resolution to refer the oil cases to the
courts for determination, the opinion
held that this was only a part of the
subject matter of the senate in
quiry, which he asserted still was un
completed.
