STAPLE IS MOVING IN VARIOUS
PARTS OF THIS STATE
FORSYTH, Ga., Aug., 17.—The
first bale of cotton” for Monroe
County was brought in this after
noon by Plelps Ensign, prominent
planter and cotton mill owner. The
bale was ginned by Newton Brothers
ginnery, weighed 455 pounds, class
ed strict middling, weighed by Boat
wriiht‘s Warehouse and was sold
for 32 1-2 cents per pound to Trip
Manufacturing Company. Mr. En
sign states that he has 150 acres in
cotton and expects to make over
half a bale per acre. The first
bale last year was brought in by
Zellnér Brothers on August 24th,
and sold for 30 cents a pound.
|DISARMS BANDIT, KILLS

' CINCINNATI, Aug., 17. — Re
membering a trick taught him by
British army officers during the
World War, Robert J. Blake, Syra
cuse, N. Y., former assistant train
er of race horses for Bud Fisher,
cartoonist, disarmed a bandit who
attempted to hold him up here early
today and killed him with his own
weapon.
Blake surrendered after the shoot
ing. He said he was walking along
the street when the bandit struck
a revolver against his ribs. “I grab
bed the gun with both hands, gave
it a twist and gained possssion of
it,” Blake sgid. The bandit started
to run and I followed. I ran after 1
fired five shots, The bandit crum
pled and fell dead.
Blake, when arraigned in poliice
court, wgs dismissed. The court
congratulated him. |
GLENNVILLE MAN KILLED |
INSTANTLY IN TRAIN CRASH
REIDSVILLE, Ga., Aug., 17.—
Virgil Bgasley, one of the rmst:
prominent citizens of Glennville,
was run down and instantly killed
Friday at a railroad crosing in Glenn
ville by a train on the Coilins and
Glennville railroad,
Mr. 3easley had jusi reccived a
messageof the death of his uncle, J.
A. Kennedy, sheriff of Tattnall coun
ty, and was on his way to Reids
ville when hit by the train.
The body was pinned under the
automobile and could not be vre
moved for several hours.

occurred at Port Sudan upon the
arrival of British troops from Khra
