NE WORLEANS , Aug. I.—The
* American commercial cotton crop for
1924-25 season was announced today
by Secretary H. G. Hester, of the New
Orleans cotton exchange as fourteen
million six hundred and ninety eight
thousanq bales as compared to elev
en million’ two hundred and ninety
thousand three hundred and ninety
seven bales during the previous sea
son.
World consumption of American cot
ton in the season of 1924-1925 was an
noui;ced at fourteen million two hun
dred and forty-seven thousang bales,
as compared to eleven million two
hundred and forty-one thousand the
previous season.

ATLANTA, Aug. I.—The item ap
propriating one million three hun
dred thousand dollars for 1926 and
the same amount fér 1927 for the pay
ment of pensions becoming due in
those years wag adopted by the house.
The item provides that all unclaim
ed penisions reverting to the treas
ury shall be prorated among the list
ed pensioners to be applied on the
past (due payments.
There also is provision in this item
that revenue derived from cigar and
cigarette tax go towards the payment
of pensions.

'ATLANTA, August 2.—The gov
ernor of Georgia would be instructed
to call cut a portion of the National
Guard and send under command of
the adjutant general to Chattanoocga
to expel from the propertles of the
Western and Atlantic Raijlroad all in
truders on the prrpearty, especially
persons representing the city of Chat
tanooga, under resolution drawn up
for introducetion in the house by
Representative Stark of Whitfield

season in many. years, nearly two
hundred bales of cotton are stored in
Cordele warehouses at the close of
business Saturday for the new croy
of 1925. This is placed at present as
follows:
Wheeler's Warehouse, 80 Dbales;
Shepherd and Wright, 65 bales; oth
ers about 25 Lales.
The recent dry hot weather open
ed the cotton very fast in the fields
and picking squads ars organizing
now in rapid manner. The faris arve
white throughout the county and the
growers are harvesting the 1)1-ettff:st
crop here in ten years.
