the United States. The Crisp County,
Board of Trade has also mailed cards:
over the state as far away as Den-|
ver Colorado, and Maine. Alrecady re

these cards. At Miami, Washinp:ton'
and New York and other places
former Cordelians are arranging
parties and will listen in on this
program.

WASHINGTON, April 25—(P)—
America’s debt commission proceed
ed cautiously today in its study of
France’s new debt offer, thus delay
ing the decision until Monday, after
an hour and a half discussion. Ex
nressions of the hope of an ecarly set
tlement were voiced by some mem--
bers, however, after today’s sessicn
it was indicated that France might
be asked to yield further on its pro
posed settlement, but there were no
indications that a counter proposal
would be offered.

EMPIRE MILLS TO GIN
WHEN SEASON OPENS
The Empire Cotton Oil Mills an
nounce that their gin at Cordele will
operate when the season opens.
A new Diesel engine, together
with other new and modern ma
chinery will be installed. Patrons ars
extended a cordial welcome to visit
the plant and inspect the machinery
that will be required to render up
to-date ginning service. Mr, J. D.
Butler is manager and urges all tc
pay them a visit.
THORNTON IMPROVES
The condition of W. H. Thornton
continues to show slight daily im
provement, and attending physicians
feel encouraged. Unless complica
tions set in, he has a fair chance for
recovery. Thornton is in the local
hospital suffering from wounds from
four pistol shots fired by L. B. Lane
Tuesday morning in front of the post

Despite the fact that there were
other attracticns in Cordele a ren--
resentaiive audionce greeted Dr.
Minor, C. Baidwin world famous con
cert organist, on Friday eveninge
when ho appearcd in a recital in the
First Methodizt church. He rendered
a splendid program, highly enjoyvable
from slart to finish. At the evenine
service hour Sunday, Dr. Baldwin
will play again. This organ recital
will take the place of the regular
scrvice. Dr. Baldwin needs no intro
duction to Cordele people, having
appeared in concert here on several
previous occasions. He is being given
a warm welcome by Cordele friends,
and doubtless many from the sister
churches as well as the Methodist
congregation will hear this artist in
his recital Sunday evening at eight
o’clock, -
A silver offering will be taken
which will go towards the orgar
fund.
A cordial invitation is extended io
all to come out and hear Dr. Bald
win on this occasion.
