Texas Evangelist Enters
Contest For Governorship
NAPLES, Texas, May 17—(P)—
“Zim” the tithing evangelist, flung
his hat into the political ring here
to compete with the bonnet of Gov
eronor Miriam A. Ferguson.
The Rev. E. O. Zimmerman, open
ing his campaign, said that the time
had come in the history of _ Texas
when “some man has got to offer
himself as a martyr for the salva--
tion of Texas.”
The Rev. Zimmerman referred to
himself as “Zim, the tithing evange
list,” and as the one to lead the bat
tle against Fergusonism.”
,“Texas has degenerated within the
last ten years,” he said. #There is
one issue and only one in this cam
paign and that is Fergusonism,” ;
He denounced the world court on|
the grounds that “America is Gud'si
cwn country and won’t be plunged
into the European cauldron.” He
scored evolution and those who teach
it, promising to rid the state of this
doctrine that “‘our grandpa came
from a monkey,” and in promising
striect law enforcement. He said he
would discharge any judge who de--
cided a case on technicalities. .
Three men and three women are
now contending for governorship.
day at the State capitol.
The Paris delegation, already ar
rived, will suggest Mr. Walkcr's
name before the convention and in
sist upon his nomination.

Expeditions were regularly sent
out by the police military, and gov
ernment department but they failed
to catch the terrifying beast who
killed eight victims recently when
the operations against it were
stopped by inclement weather. The
people in the district had been so
terrified that they would shut them
selves in their houses after sunsct,!
The tiger grew so bold in the win
ter it would smash the doors of the
thatched huts of the villagers, carry
ing off its victims, The tiger was so
important a question that means to
excerminate it were asked in the leg
