2 Fire Fighters Die In
~ Allegheny Forest Blazes
WARREN, Ga., May 19—(#)—
Forest fires raging uncontroffed in
Elk and McKeen counties were be
lieved by forestry officials today to
have caused the death of two uni
dentified wdodcutters, who were aid
ing.in fighting the flames. Reporte
to the forestry office here were that
the men were:burned to death after
baving been .encircled by flames in
the Bear creek district. ‘
The fire, sweeping through the Al
lepheny National forest, started sev
eral days ago and has burned over
7,000 acres of second growth timber
and destroyed a number of lumber
camps. , |
The forestry office was notified
that four expert fire-fighters have
been orddqfed into the district from
Washington. Approximately 5,000
men are fighting the fire. The Cas*
tanea Paper Mill at Johnsonburg
shut down and sent men into the
woods.

lection of a jury was completed to:
day to try Alexander Hodges, formgr;
University of Kansas athlete and al

Testimony will begin in the morning.|
During examination of prospective,
jurors it was indicated that the de-!

mental strain at the time heeause of
being without fnds and out of work.
It will be contended thai he was on
his way back to the restaurant he is
alleged to have robbed in Columbus
circle when he was overtaken and
felled 0y a patrolman’s night club.
He is charged with taking $240 from
the restaurant after holding up ‘the
proprietor with a cigarette case
shaped like a pistol.
Hodge’s mother grrived from Kan
sas City today and conferred " with
her son’s counsel concerning his de
fense. While the jurors were being
selected Hodge was the center of a
group of college friends who have
been with him whenever he has ap--
peared in court since his arrest.
