OUSLY, BUT WITH PRUDENCE
“IN_HANDLING WAR CHIEF.
FEZ, Morocco, May 26—It was
officially announced this afternoon
that Abd-El Krim, Riffian chieftain
was coming into the French lines.
Krim will be taken to Taza where
the instructions of the French resi
dent general, Jules Stege, are await
ed.
Krim, it is announced, put himself
and his property under the protec
tion of France. Prior to notif'_ving"
the French of his surrender, Krim|
returned all French, Spanish, and
native prisoners who have been held
in Riffian prizons., i
Abd-El-Krim will be treated “with
generogity, but with prudence,” a
fareign office spokesman declared on!
receiving news today of the Riffian{
chieftain’s surrender. He said it was
apparent from the dispatches thatl
Krim deemed further fighting use--
