These appointments will evidently
come as the result of a compromise

ity in the service made it possible for
him to lead his competitors for the
honors in the election which was con-¢
ducted in Macon.
He has been a lieutenant of the
Cordele Company and Captain ever
since the war. The Cordele company
was organized immediately after the
end of hostilitic: and at the time the
state service was established. Major
Mathews was in the world th,mngh-‘

and Tuesday. Scopes was tried for

against teaching evolution,
Darrow said the arguments would
develop no new points of law not in
volved in the original trial in which
Scopes was convicted,
The case was appealed to the su
preme court so that it may pass up
on the constitutionality of the law
which forbids teaching evolution.
