ing when she seemed to have come
from the first effects of the shock
with a firmer hold on life. She is
still in most critical condition.

The senate judiciary sub-committec
today divided four to one in upholc
ing the legality of President Cool--
idge’s order authorizing employment
of state officers as federal prohibi--
tion agents.
Chairman Cummings and Senators
Borah of Idaho and Goff of Woest
Virginia, republicans, and Walsh
democrat of Montana, held that the
order wag legal, while Senator King
demoerat of Utah, contended that
the president had acted without the
necessary legal authority.
The sub-committee report will be
submitted to the committee Monday

nleted late Thursday afternoon when
Chairman Ed Maddox, of Rome
wired his appointments to news
papers here. The chairman was au
thorized by the state convention in
Macon to appoint two men and one
woman from each congressional dis
trict, to act with the four men and
two women from each distrvict who
were named at the cenvention.
