BIBLE THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
THE VISION OF GOD—‘“How
goodly are thy tenets, O Jacob, and
_thy tabernacles, O Israel!” Nu

by Paul Berlehbach for light huuvyvi

They gave the decision to the cham

by no means an easy battle for the
champion. Btrib was not altogether
licked. He made it largely a matter
z of choice as between the two |w|th{
the judges. He punched the (-hum‘
" ‘pian elear through the ropes with one
drive. |
And.now we have the first cotton
bloom of the season. It came from
a choice ten acre field in which the
I weevil has as yet put in no appear
‘ific_e. Qur cotton fields are respond
jng. well to the warm weather and
sea{aonable rains. We hope the grow
ers will not go to sleep and let the
weevils get a start. Crisp farmers
* have bright prospects for great cot:
ton ylelds. Terrific onslaughts are
being made against the price and we
cannot promise much in the fall fo
our crop, but we are on the way
with a good one.
Friends here will find great pleas
ure in reading of the success of Sen
atar Fletcher of Florida in his race
for re-election in his state, He has
proven one of the most active of
gouthern senators and has had a long
career in the United States senate.
He has relatives in Cordele who have
beqn’ watching the course of his race
and the results in Florida with great
interest. He has apparently won
over two contestants with a large
mgrgin and Florida is sending him
back again to render further service
for his state and the south. Geor
glans are indeed proud of this former

find such confidence manifested in

growing city. It has not been as busy
in development in the past ten year: |
as it is today. The new ll)‘(ll'()-(-l(’¢"
tric piant which will be provided fo.
in the fall out on Flint river will prc
vide fourteen thousand horse powe
for use i all of Crisp county and the
dévelopment is going to be much
faster than ever bhefore when thi:
power is available. In fact the prom
ise of the big hydro-electric powe:
supply at a reasonable cost has al
ready affordeq a big bulge in ¢
velopment and there is going to b
more and more of it as we get nearver
to the turhing of the wheels. 'When
that supply of power is once secun
all of Crisp county is going to develop
unlike anything we ever saw. Georgit
is going to be a great industrial
state along with its agricultural devel
opment. Cordele and Crisp county
are going to have advantages to offer
that will bring development. We have
the five-year tax exemption in both
city apd county and we are now go
ing straight into the business of
stamping out malaria. Let's keep this
neck of the woods fit for big bus!
ness and it will come—come in sur
prising short time.
’ TRY THIS FIGHT
‘ Better go after those mosquitoes
f you expect to win your [fight
i igainst malaria this summer, We need
“mt brag that we have no mosquitoes,
Better be carefu. about doing away
with the breeding places. "old barrels
md pots and cans and low places
can bhe cleared of standing water,
And that which remains through the
jummer can be taken care of with
1 slow drip from a can or keg or con
tafner of some kind with kerosene or
the ofl refuse from the zuto repair
shops in town. [t is surprising how
much water can be made immune
from mosquitoes with a very little oil
treatment,
The houses ought to be screened
carefully from the flies and mos
‘qulloes. This ought to be done prompt
‘ly and efficiently on all hquann oceu
pled by human beings everywhere,
white and colored. The wells ought
to he covered so “thny cannot become
breeding places, If the wiggle tails
show up in any well and that well
cannot be chzarc% of them at once, it
ought to be filled. A littl2 table salt
is said to be good to end thelr exist
ence. But the ywell with wiggle tails
in it spells digaster in health forgall
human beings on the place, B. §n
veritable death hole. Don't let® it
exist, i
. A little care now will keep the place
&un.flr(-ly rid of mosquitoes. There will
be no need of treatment in the later
summer for malaria fever for there
will be none. Remember, if a malafial
mosquito bites any person, all the
mosquitoes that bite the same person
become infested and thus malarial
is spread more rapidly than could be
understood by anyhody not dispo“
to take care of mosquito eradication.
It is easy to keep free from malaria
~much easier than we think. It
isn’t bad air, as the world would in
dicate, It isn’t ponds and creeks and
mud and low lands, as we have ahwu!m
supposed, that do the harm-exce:f)'la
that these provide breeding places for
the malarial mosquito. This little pést
is responsible for all the malavial
fever we have in the summer and
fall—every bit of it. Rid the plncé‘
of mosquitoes and the task of eradi
cating malaria is a complete one. The
mosquito can be exterminated with
surprising ease. Give enough time to
keeping out starding water on the
place and then treat it with a ver,v'
slight dripping ol oil. Kerosene is the
’hmt because it is volatile and will
spread further. One single drop will
i.-nver a surprisingly large amount of
‘water. That cover compldtely immu
for the eggs of the mosquito. One
nizes the water from hatching places
lone drip tank in Gum Cfeek at; the
National Highway bridge will fainly
well take care of lll:e w,utm‘su‘l‘omi
there to the river. The thin coating
of oil drifts into the eddi«E and shal
low places and complétel}f ousts the
mosquito. So any farmer may takag
care of the. streams ,dn hlflj)lxl'('?".}
Enough oil to do away with the mos
quito will not r(:ln the water for; other
uses, if the work is done properly—if
the oil goes on in a very slow drip
where the running waters will take it
dawn stream, In ponds one drip will
take care of acres of eddy. The wluds“
will distribute the oil to the very
haunts of the mosquito. |
Let our doubting citizens try (hl.q}
thing one time. 1t will not cost muuhl
to put up a drip of a small quantity
of kerosene or refuse oil from thul
garage. "We want them to see ll(‘l-\‘%
easy it is to wipe out every trace ofl
malaria. It is worth a trial. The ex
periment will prove highly interest
ing and of great value. We must
fight malaria. This thing is. costing
us too much,
Candidates are developing now that
tho stat 2 executives committee has
met ang fixed dates, All those whe
expect to run will have to make up
their minds and enter by June 22nd
