. the residence of his great-great-great
. great grandchildren here today. Al
though rroof of his age cannot be
substantiated, old-timers declare he
was an old man at the time of the
war between the states.
According to stories the ancient ne
gro has told the children of the past
tive generations he has lived in
Fiorida under the flags of England
Spain, the United Stateg, the Con
fercacy and the union again and was
engaged in several Indian confliets in
the state, Most of his life was lived
in this district,

—()~—When Reland Mix and
George Price, Daytona Beach lads
went out to inspect a baited barrel
line they found a huge stinagree on
the end of the line. Mix and Price
were rowing a catanmaran but the
stingaree did not want to be taken
#0 instead towed the boys 6 miles out
to gea before they succeeded in
cutting loose from the fish,
News of their plight reached shore
and Chauncey Hyatt, a life guard
went to theirassistance in a motor
boat, but darkness had settled over
the ocean and Hyatt wasg unable Lc
find the boys. Daytona Beach polic(';
were informed and algo sent out n}
hoat. Three hours after being towed
to sea Mix and Price managed tr%
row back to the beach. Hyatt and the
police crew following them a ahm’lj
