of Arkhankelo was wiped out and
several other towns on the Island of
g{.hodes were seriously damaged in

basin between Asia Minor, southern
Italy and north Africa.
So far as is known only one per
son was killed. Several were injured.

PLANNED WITH FIVE SHIPS

tablishment of the American Mer
chant lines to operate an independ:
ent passenger service between New
York, Plymouth and London with
five shipping toard vessels was an--
- nounced today. Each of the ships, pre
viously operated as fast cargo car
riers, has been refitted with accomo
dations for 74 nassengers.
The vessls oiiginally were refitted
to assist the United States lines in
caring for passengers booked on the
steamship Anicrica, which was dam
aged by fire aut Newport News, Now
that the United States lines ave able
to handle their own traffic, the ship
pinLE' board determined to establish
the American Merchant lines as a
permanent passenger service which

Mrs. Albers Brookshire died yes
terday at noon at the family home
in Jacksonville. The funcral and in
terment oceurred today in Jackson
ville. Her hushand and a little boy

ley, and sister of Mrs. Ed Sharpe,

LONBLON, June 28, —(Al')— The
trans-Atlantic liner, Berengaria, kill
ed a whale yesterday. Six whales
crossed the bows of the steamer Sun
day, but one turncd badk and the
vessel struck it. The impact caused
the hig ship to tremble from stem to
stetn, and a man in the bhow was
nearly thrown overboaril.
The whale was instantly killed.
