C. B. GAMMAGE, OF MACON
ONE OF THOSE HELD IN AB
BEVILLE. I
|
ABBEVILLE, Ga., July s—(P)—
Six young white boys were Ihndedj
in the county jail Saturday evening
charged with larceny from the store
house of Lorine Peeples, on the Ro
chelle and Sibley road Saturday
morning. They gave their names as
George Merritt, L. H. Merritt, L. B
Brannan and R, L. Trace, of Jack
sonville; R. Travis, of Brunswick
and C. B. Gammage of Macon.
The Merritt hoys say that they
are {rom Ohio originally. All . four
claim that they were in Macon and
worked to put out the fire at the
ballpark when the grandstand burned‘
there Friday night.
Mr. Peeples says the boys called
for soft drinks, that he sold them
six bottles and that they gave him a
$lO bill. When he gave them the
change he had about $3O in a sack
and he put it in his money drawer
They then called for a quart of oil
and he went out of the store to put
the quart in their car. While he was
out, the money disappeared, he says
Mr. Peetles, missing the money
got in touch with thechief of police
in Fitzgerald, and had the boys stop:
ped. He then got the marshal from
Rochelle and went to that town of
ter them. When searched they had on
ly about $9.59 on them.
Gammage says he is fifteen years
old. One of the Merritt boys is but
fifteen. Court convenes in Abbeville
next Tuesday, when it is likely the
case will eome up for investigation
by the grand jury.
