DISHES AND DREAMS
One time I got to thinkin’ of the
times we women spend
On the humdrum work of living’ and
the tasks that never end
So I counted up the minutes and
the answer made me think—
I found I spent cne year in five be
fore the kitchen sink!
i
And so I got to hatin’ the dull things
I had to do;
Life didn’t seem worth livin’ ti)
. the kitchen work was thru,
And I'd stand there washin’ dishes
In &4 mood a: b'ack as ink— |
'Til father cut a window i nthe wall
above the cink.
And then as I steod workin’ I coul(:‘
look away so far,
Past the meadows to the marshes
where the redwood lilies are,
Ang in fancy I could wander down
" the blossom bordered stream,
And my homely task was finished
when I came¢ back from my
dream,
And now it isn’t dredgin’ and the
reason is I think.
That the window lets my thoughts
* out—up above the kitchen sink
For fancy lightens labor. I can Jaco
things with & smile,
If I kind o’ leaven livin’ with 2
dream once in a while,
