OBTAINS RELEASE
MIAM.I. FLA., July 12,—(AP)~—Lu
ther M. Hood, formerly of Commerce,
Ga., charged with first degree mur
der in connection with the death of
Mrs. Ethel Grace Wooten, of Atlanta,
on May 21, near Homestead, Fla,, was
releacged from the county jail here to
day when his case in circuit court
was nolle prossed,

Berlin, July 13.(/P)JBecause of
yesterday’s accidents during the in:
ternational competition of the Ger:
man Automobile club, the speed:
way has been condemned for furth
er racing. The speedway was origl
nally laid out by the kaiser as a ipri~
vate road {rom Berlin to Potsdam
and was completed after the war by
the late Hugo Siinnes, industrial
magnate. ‘
Yesterday’s " accidents were due
to skidding on the rain-soaked surl
face. ' A car driven by the German |
Rosenberg, smaslied a time post and
plunged into the grandstand, kill
ing one time kceper and injuring
another so badly that he died today;
Rosenberg’s mechanician and three
spectators also were hurt. |
Three other cars left the tracek
at different points. Then persons
including drivers, mechani::ians and
spectators, are in the hospitals, four
seriously hurt.
LAURENS MAN IS K7LLED {
DUBLIN, GA., July 13.—Jim Gar-}
rett, 60, was skot and killed near
his home in the western section of
Laurens late Sunday after an alter
cation with Frank Peddis, husband
of Garrett’s divorced wife.
The shooting was said to have oc
curred ofter Garett fired a load of
shot from a shotgun into the Peddis
home, :
HEARD OF COWS DRUNK
JOLIET, ILL., July 13.—A hic.
coughing herd came staggering over
the lea today on a farm near Frank
fort, where state officials dumped
69,000 gallons of mash. The cattle

and two cows died. The twenty
