—Charging that he was kidnapped
and forced to marry a Pembroka
girl at the point of a pistol, Joseph
Brewton, 19, hag brought charges of
}idnapph’u: acainst Joseph MceKeller
}}/’lm Schumann, well known
farmers in this vicinity and Thas
caused their arvest. Both are cut on
bond awaitting a preliminary hear
ing which will take place within the
next two weeks.,
. The girl in the case is the 17-year
old daughter of W. J. Thompson, a
well known farmer. |
According to the story related l‘.vl
Brewton, lagt Sunday afternoon ho
was approached in Pembroke by
brothers of the eir]l who asked that
he accompany them down the road
a short distnace, There, he said, he
was met by McKeller, a brotaer-in
law of the girl, and Schuman, who
forced him into an automobile with
the girl. |
They sped’ to Savannah and
thence to South Carelina where the
marriage ceremony was performed.
Upon their return to Pembroke the
boy “went' to the home of his par
ents and the oirl to her father’s
homie.

James Tift Mann, for more than
‘twenty years city attorney of Al
bany. and recognized ag one of the
state’s bezt authoritics on muncipal
law, died at kis homs on Tift ¢treet
at midnight' Wedneszday night, fol
lowing -an illness of years that be
came acute about ten days agu Mr.
Mann was first stricken some cight
yoars ago, and, despite the fact that
he has since been practically an in
valid, being forced to travel in roil.

Mr. Mann compiled the city codej
of Albany, drafted a majority of
the ordinance passed in the last
twenty years and represented Um]!
city successfully in hundreds of law

laws that afftected particularly the
City of Albany. His ability was o
widely recognized and generaily npi‘
preciated that his tenure of office
was not disturbed by any politicnli
changes in Albany. . i |
The deceased was a native of '\J-}
bany, where he was born March "h,
1880, the son of W. D. and iv.un-i_fi
Tift Mann. On his maternal side he
was a grandson of the late Col. Nel

relatives. JFuneral services will be
held at St. Paul’s Episcopal church
Friday morning, conducted by Dr.
John Moore Walker, with city and
county officials forming an honorary ‘
escort.

lenhurst, now in the hands of a re:
ceiver, by the Townsend family,
formerly of Liberty and Long eaun
tics, now of Florida. Defaults having

Dunlevie Company the land was put
up for public sale.
A noticcable feature of the sale
were other high bidders on the proj
erty, one of the Townsend brothers
bidding $lOO,OOO. The approximate
8,988 acres is considered one of the
finest racts of timber inSouth Geor
gia.
