SCIENTISTS SAIL TO STUDY
EFFECT OF SUN ON WEATHER
. NEW YORK, August 12—(®)—In
an effort to find the effect of the
sun’s heat on the earth’s weather,
the joint expedition of the Smith
sonian Institute and the National
Geographic Society will sail tomor
row on the Cunard liner Berengaria
to establish a solar observatory on
a'desert mountain in Africa, What is
claimed as the first observatory of
this kind is the castern hemisphere
will be placed on the mountain of
Brukkaros in southwest Africa.
Two ecientists and a 16 months’
old baby accompanied by her aunt,
comprise the expedition. William H.
Hoover, who spent the last two years
in charge of the Argentine govern
ment's zolar observatory at LaQua
