the neck, Harry Darnes, of Island
Grove, was in a hogpital bere under
guard tonigh. charged with attempt

The attempted hold up oceurred
ghortly hefore noon today when two
men entered the bank, presented a
c/iu-ck. signed by, Joe Tracey and Im‘l
mediately covered 1, W. loffman,
the cachier, with revolvers. ‘
Hoffman dropped behind the
counter and opened fire upon the in
truders. One of them fell to the
floor and the others rushed from the
building.
Barnes was picked up in the hunk*
building following the battle and
taken to a hospiial. where lw‘
coughed up a bullet, Physicians '::idi
he will probably recover, ‘
KEEPER OF FARM 'S STABBED

MAYPFIELD, Ky., August 13—(/7),
—R. F. Lawrence, 65, keeper of the
_county farm near here, was stabted
to death early today by W. R. Du
pree, 69, an inmate. ’
The stabbing was said to have fol
lowed a quarrel on the porch of e
farm housc,'(vhen Lawrence repri
manded Dupree.
Dupree formerly was an inmate of
the asylum, He is in jail here now
charged with the killingz.
Lawrence lived only a few min
utes. . '
